The Bug in the Jug Wants a Hug: A Short Vowel Sounds Book (Sounds Like Reading ®)

We have done the Bob Books and Starfall.com. My 5 year olds were just starting to recognize basic words. One of my twins picked this out at the library. We read it at home and were hooked. Reading became a whole new world to them. I went online right after reading this with them and ordered the first four of the series.The concept is basic rhyming. Each page has words that end in the same letters, just the first letter is different. I cover up the first letter, they say the ending sound, I uncover the first letter and they sound out that letter then say the word.A single funny sentence on one page makes it simple for them and they don't get overwhelmed. If they don't know a word, they can look at the picture cue. The illustrations are fun and so are the sentences.I thank the author for creating this book for kids.

The rhymes are predictable. The pictures help assist. Overall our kindergartener had a good experience reading this to us. We appreciate the rhyming word list to the side of each page. Our son loves finding the extra rhyming word as the book progressed. We recommend it!

My son learned to read at age 3 but quickly got bored with the Bob Books. He stopped reading because the stories didn’t grab his attention and he found it boring. Enter Bug in a Jug! The pages are silly and fun and each one is different - keeping him interested! The whole series is great and builds on skills with each book!

my kids liked the book so much I got all eight of them they're cute and colorful fun to read its good practice for learning similar sounds I truly recommend this weather the child is having a hard time reading or a good reader still a good book for practice I have a child with adhd and one who is gifted and both loved this book and read it over and over and understood the related sound

The book is easy to read.It is consistently thematic & makees learning fun.

These are really great books for new readers! I love how my son can just read one page and can practice new words before he reads the sentence, but I thought it was an actual story and it is not.

The pictures help her to learn the words. Really cute book.

Great for beginning readers--the format of these books work fabulously for my struggling reader--it helps him build confidence when he can get through a book with little frustration.
