Kettle Moraine Cedar Super Eastern Bluebird House with Side Opening Viewing Window

The Blue Birds have returned year after year. Easy to clean when the babies fledge and the viewing window is great.

This is my second purchase of this well made Bluebird nest box. I have had BB's and Chickadees nest in the first box, so figured it was time for the second one. Just put it up today and will winterize it for roosting birds during the upcoming Winter.

This box is too small for Western Bluebirds. The floor measures 3 5/8" X 4 7/8". The recommended floor size is a minimum of 5" X 5". (5.5" x 5.5 would be better.)I am very impressed with the quality materials and the excellent workmanship that went into the construction of this nesting box. I am disappointed that the box's floor size will not comfortably accommodate Western and Mountain Bluebirds. (I gave the design 5-stars because of its quality.)I purchased this design of box earlier this year but failed to measure the box's floor before mounting it on a cast iron pole. I am now stuck with the first box. Hopefully, tree swallows will use it. I mounted the box on an 8 ft. section of 3/4" cast iron pipe using a cast iron floor flange. This gives me access to clean out the nest of unwanted birds, ie... House Finches and/or Sparrows.

Following extensive research and patient, comparative shopping, I ordered this Kettle Moraine Cedar Super Bluebird Nest Box. I am an experienced bluebird landlord, but I have never been satisfied with any of my existing boxes; they all have major flaws. I had EXTREMELY high expectations for this particular rendition, and when it arrived, holy smokes!! This is a ridiculously nice nest box!! I will not recite the specifications, as they are accurately cataloged in the description, but the value is in the execution of the design plan. Everything component is of the highest quality, and the fit and finish is first class, all the way! I usually obsess over every little detail, but I do not plan to sand, stain, or otherwise modify this gorgeous nest box, at all! If there is a better Eastern Bluebird nest box on the market, this would be the first I am hearing of it.

I've purchased many Bluebird houses over the years. The slightly larger size, the sturdy construction, the built in predator guard and the over all design is superior to other Bluebird houses I've purchased. The sparrows, mockingbirds, bluejays, etc have had a tough time getting to the Bluebird eggs and to the Bluebird chicks owing to the design of this particular Bluebird house. Believe me the predator birds have tried! Our Bluebirds are thriving in this house.

I like the box. Solid and built to last. I have a bluebird nest now with 5 eggs that should hatch in another week! Feedback from a bluebird expert to me about this box : in a storm, rain could blow in the open space on the sides under the lid. Many other bluebird boxes do not have those open spaces, or the boxes have an overhang on the roof. The side acrylic window does allow you to see the side of the nest, but I have to slide my iPhone in at the top and take a phone to monitor the nest. If the top actually swung open it would be easier.

This is exactly what I was looking for! It's built very well and has a great predator guard which is a must! I really like the "viewing" area on the side. It's MUCH nicer than other birdhouses that I've purchased! I hung it on the side of my house on an upper deck so the little guys will be safe from predators. If you're looking to mount this on the side of your house, do a search for "Bird House Mounting Bracket with Keyhole Openings". I used this type of mounting and it worked really well! Now I'm just waiting for new residents!

This bird house has everything I was looking for. Good drainage/ventilation, predator chew guard, ridges on the interior under the opening when fledglings are trying to crawl out, and the side opens for viewing - but the nest is protected from falling out by the plexiglass. Really well made, highly recommend this one! Now we are just waiting for some bird families to occupy it.
