OPUS: 25 Years of His Sunday Best
B**N
Opus at his best
Bloom County by Berkeley Breathed. greatest cartoonist of last 50 years. Sharp, creative, relevant, intelligent, wonderfully pointed humor. There are many softback compilations, all great. Avoid his hardbacks. Massive tomes, highest quality. BUT, these are great comics, not Webster's Dictionary where you are sitting at a library desk. Your are in a lounge chair or in bed, Those 15 pound hardbacks don't work. Stay with softbacks like this one. This one is of highest printed quality and sharp humor.

Buy this book. Right now. You will thank me.
I just wish they had more than 5 stars. Opus is a wonderful satire. And even when it touches on serious matters, it is spot on and STILL funny. And this is 25 years of his Sunday best. How could you go wrong?

A walk down memory lane . . .
I was a huge fan of Bloom County back during it's first run way back when. I looked forward to turning to the comics page for my daily laugh. Opus was one of many great characters in that strip, but he stood out because he was the only penguin.Reading these strips covering not only the original run, but also the resurrected strip, brought back a lot of good laughs and provided some new ones.May Opus live forever.

Sundays haven't been the same since....
....Opus left us. What loveable charachters lived in Bloom County! And I miss them every day. Not only did Berkeley Breathed touch on some timely topics, but his sharp political humor is definately lacking in todays comics. This is a great collection; and it helps to fill the void since we last saw Opus, Binkley, Steve Dallas, Bill the Cat and the rest of the residents of Bloom County.Come back, Opus...come back!

How could they make such a stupid mistake?
I've always been a huge fan of Bloom County. HUGE. It's basically what got me interested in politics in the first place, and I've owned most of their compilation books in non-digital form. I picked this digital version up because I was going on a long trip and wanted to enjoy some of the Sunday strips without having to bring a large book. The problem? YOU CAN'T READ IT! The digital version was scanned at a resolution that's not detailed enough to read the text of the characters. You can sort of make out what the characters are saying if you really try, and by the time you're halfway through a strip, you just give up altogether. Struggling to make out the blocky text (zooming in only makes it worse) completely pulls you out of the strip and does little more than just frustrate you.It looks like the hard copies are still the way to go. Because this is a waste of money. How did this pass quality control? Someone had to notice this before approving it's distribution. Just a disappointment.**UPDATE/EDIT 10/15/2013**So, just to see how they would address this issue, I contacted the company responsible for scanning/selling this ebook, and as it turns out, they also sell hard copies. I told them about the resolution issue and asked if they would be able to do anything about it, as I was unable to enjoy the book as it was presented. They quickly responded to my message and offered to send me a hard copy of the book to make up for it. Sure enough, it came in the mail about two weeks later. VERY cool. They could have just ignored me and moved on with their day, but they saw a problem and did the right thing. When you treat customers like that, you know you're doing business the way it should be done. Bumped up my review another two stars for the customer service.

I Love This Cartoonist
I have loved these cartoons since the first one I read years ago. I am so happy to see Opus appearing again recently. I loved Bloom County. I love Bill the Cat and was so happy to see him in a recent Opus cartoon. Keep up the great work. I am 73 years old and laughing keeps me young and cheerful. We need more like this.

OPUS
I read these in the paper while Mr. Breathed was doing a daily/weekly strip. My grandchildren have discovered how awesome his work is and spend hours reading and re-reading all of my Bloom County books! He is amazing and Opus and Bill are my heroes! Thanks Berk!

Love it
You either love Opus or you won't get the point. Breathed is probably the most innovative cartoon artist in the world in the last few decades, but many won't get it.

excellent
What can you say bad about this book other then it was just a snapshot of the strip. Always funny, artwork is amazing. Retired to soon . Better then 99% of today' predictable comics.I would definately recommend this book.
