Up to that point I was raised by all men in a pretty neglectful environment
When I went to live in foster care at 10 I wanted to read this book. I purchased it with my allowance and then was told I had to take it back. Because I had crossed out the price on the book, the used bookseller wouldn't let me return the book for full price. I stood in the back of his store tears streaming down my face because this was the book that I thought I needed to read to understand what it meant to start middle school and all the changes my new found friends were going through. Up to that point I was raised by all men in a pretty neglectful environment. Now don't ask me why it took me over 30 years to finally get the courage (yes courage) to read this book. It was not the awful "sex' book my foster mother told me it would be, and I think if I read it back then, a lot of questions I was never given the answers to would have been more readily available for me. It was a quick read and should be something that girls of that age are afforded the opportunity to read. There is nothing in this book that might change how they behave, but it could give young girls at that age the confidence to have open and honest discussions with their mothers about this time in their lives.

A must read for every preteen 😎
Although this is an older book, it still touches on all the things young girls worry about like body image, boys, friends, and periods. Told in kid friendly first person, it's a true classic. My very bright 8 year old granddaughter absolutely devoured it!

Margaret
I'm 71 and this is my first time reading this book. While not all the things apply in my life it does bring back some memories. I think it is very good reading for 12 year olds. Also could be a conversation starter.

Very entertaining coming-of-age story
This story made it hard for me to stop reading at night. I adore the four PTS's and how much Margret learns over the course of the year. However, this book may not be suitable for children under about ten years old. I say this because of the detail it goes into with things like religion and growing up. I really enjoyed this fantastic book.

Spot on!!
This book is one of my favorite childhood stories! I highly recommend every young lady to read this book. Parents, if you don’t know by now, you have nothing to worry about in regards to the content of this bookAuthor Judy Blume captures perfectly the thinking and behavior of young grammar school girls. From fitting in, peer pressure, liking boys, the first kiss to popularity, jealousy and body development.I am 52 years old and I thoroughly enjoyed once again, reading this book (my original book, I received at 13, that my daughters and granddaughters have read as well). It was so humorous going down memory lane remembering my own adolescent years and learning through Blumes books.Enjoy!

Perfect selection for girls beginning to show the personality traits of puberty.
An old favorite. My daughters liked it and now my granddaughter has read it. She actually read the whole book in one day.

Timeless coming of age story
I remember reading this in 5th grade back in the 80’s and how much I liked this book. My 10 year old daughter is a struggling reader and doesn’t enjoy reading because of that fact. This book has changed that for her. She read it aloud to me, and it’s the first book she’s found that she asked me to purchase for her (the one she read we checked out at the local library). It opened up conversations between the two of us regarding coming of age issues. It is just as relatable now as it was 35 years ago when I read it. It discusses topics such as body changes with puberty, boys, figuring out what you believe, and friendships. I highly recommend this book. The issues are middle grade to middle school, and the reading level was perfect for 4th grade level/5th grade level.

Great read for pre-teens (and of course a sneaky re-read for those who loved Margaret the first time round).
I read this when I was 12 and loved it, am now 41 and have bought for my stepdaughter and niece who both loved Margaret. Obviously written in a time before the Internet age and mobile devices but it's still relevant to this generation of preteens. The friendship ups and downs, fitting in, boys, boobs, periods, school, parents, and of course the odd chat with God to see if he has any of the answers. Margaret will always be one of my heroines.

Preteen Coming of Age story
This is a Preteen Coming of Age story that talks about things that seem like the most important thing at that age for girls, from boys, to kissing, to periods. From how much you want to start your period, because no matter how it's told you, nothing prepares you for what's about to happen. I wish I read this book when I was younger as I would've really have connected and enjoyed it a little bit more. I can see how and why this is so important and why it's essential. A book that I highly recommend and will be recommended to my young relatives when the time comes.

Iconic book about teenage girls growing up.
What can I say about this book!? BUY IT!! If you have a teenage daughter this book is a must. I’m sure loads of us children of the 80’s and 90’s remember sneakily reading this in school. It’s a brilliant story of growing from a child into a young adult and all it brings. I purchased this for my soon to be 12 year old. She’s a bit young yet but I’m sure she will love it as much as I do! And I’ve heard it’s going to be made into a film! Can’t wait!

I can see why it would appeal to young girls
I never read any of Judy Blume's books as a child, but I decided to read this one as I am following her lessons on MasterClass. I can see why it would appeal to young girls, although I have no idea if the concerns in the story were what my classmates were talking about when I was that age – I was a loner with a very different outlook on life and not part of any social circles.

A must buy for year 6 Girls!
Amazing book for girls in the last year of primary school. I read it 40 years ago and it helped me find out who I was, I have just bought it for my 11 year old niece who loved it and ordered more Judy Blume books.
