HUGE. Fresh water for weeks. Don't want to pay so much extra for better color.
I WANTED this in peacock blue but DIDN'T want to pay an additional $11 extra dollars for what? ?Color? Nah. (Even though it WOULD match our blue litter box) So silver gray it is. This is SUPER huge. I mean four gallons, it would have to be, right? l thought Amazon had overpackaged when the huge box arrived. Nope. It all seems sturdy. No cheap plastic. It IS super easy to assemble and clean when refilling. Other reviewers cited the 'filter strap' being difficult. I have pain and numbness in both hands, no nails to manipulate with and it wasn't difficult. ...And I maybe don't change the filter from the first one. I did not have any unpredictable spills - Not that I didn't spill... The bottom (gray) piece is actually two pieces, and they were not quite clicked together....Water splashed through an opening I wasn't aware of, between pieces, at first. And, like with my dog's last gravity waterer, I filled the bowl before I "flip and plant" the filled bottle into the bowl. This prolonged time between needing to fill the waterer again. Also I found this prevented "losing" a lot of water to the bowl that l just spent time putting into the bottle. THAT might be the best method with this product! I have read reviews citing "gushing" water when bottles are planted into empty bowls....so maybe at least put some water in the bowl. Plus with this product....that bowl holds a lot of water, like, a LARGE storage quantity itself without the bottle. the 'big gulp' of water dishes. The bottle then needs to turn to click/lock into dish. Had to learn that. Or the bottle is slightly...off. Not a problem with water flow. But that instinct of: "is that.. off?" Indeed it is my friend. I think there is a definite learning curve to using such a large waterer successfully. But my family is SUPER phobic of water spills (after our fridge water ruined our entire kitchen. Then that plumber left a bathtub running, ruining our bathroom as well) Basically we have PTSD if we see water spills or hear water running. So if we can handle this sitting in our rebuilt kitchen, anyone can! I can not speak to 'freshness'. I don't drink from it. The four leggeds don't mind. The reason we BOUGHT this is we adopted a indoor cat in addition to our dog. And it is DRY where we live. When this arrived and was unassembled, we actually put the cat INTO the gray dish(sorry no photo). Judge all you want, it was adorable.... And freakin' roomy! Anyhow. Water bowl itself holds a lot of water. Then there's the sturdy clear bottle. It all buys you a lot of time between chores, err.. piece of mind that my fur babies will have water. BUT since it holds so much you can go a LONG time without messing with it. There is a certain ick factor when (again) in our arrid climate dust, fur, or cat litter collect in the bowl. this doesn't bother the pets, just me. So I refill/clean/reset the whole thing just to clean the bowl before my beasts need more water. Yes, I have small creatures. this is more than I need for them. Better than having less than I need! And OBVIOUSLY this amount of water, four gallons, weights a lot. Frail people need not apply. Or maybe just use it as an excuse to make people visit you to fill the water bottle. I'll update if theres major change with the product. UPDATE: Product still going strong. Kitten is a cat, still fits in the gray dish. Went from waterer next to litter box to cat tree between them and waterer against wall. Less crap collects in water and cat REALLY enjoys the huge bowl. She will splay over the water like its going places. Other times she sits down dipping her paws in to lick water off her paws to drink. ..not sure if THAT is how she drinks water, or is just a game. This thing is half water dish half swimming pool. And its too sturdy for a cat or my #14 dog to tip over. Makes my cat love water. That is what l? care about.

Works awesome! No leaks, easy to fill up (SEE PRODUCT HACK INSIDE WITH PICTURE)
I should've bought one of these ages ago. Not sure why some folks say they can't fill it out without dousing themselves with water.. when it's getting low, you take it over to the sink. Slowly turn it on its side so the water in the bowl empties out, and flip it over. Rotate the now-upside down bowl to take it off. Flip the jug over, rinse it out, fill it up, set it to the side. Wash out the bowl real good. Put the jug back in the sink. Attach and turn the bowl (it's still upside down, mind you). Then, I just carry it over, upside down, to its final destination .. flip it over real quick and set it down. Never have any issues. You could certainly flip it back over, over the sink.. but I haven't had to do that at all. The ONLY downside to this entire thing, and it's not a product design thing at all, is that if your pets take a long time to drain it down then that is (necessarily) a long time between cleanings of the bowl. So make your own rule... maybe empty/clean it when it's only half-way depleted if you want. This water unit.. combined with the PetSafe automatic feeder.. the cats could theoretically survive alone for 6+ weeks even if the power to the house went out. NOTE: I would never do that, I'm just saying : - ) UPDATE Jan 21 2018 - - reducing from 5 stars to 3, but buying another one ! Hadn't read any of the reviews that said to NOT put the tank into the dishwasher.. and I put the 1-gallon tank (minus the black screw/filter component) into the dishwasher. The tank melted/warped. See picture. Luckily, it still "sort of" fits on, but I feel a leak is imminent. After looking at reviews of other gravity water feeders, however, i'm still buying another one (2.5 gallons this time) of these because of the low price. The base is dishwasher safe, but not the tank - - I don't see this mentioned anywhere in the product manual. If your dishwasher can do a medium/low temperature, then give it a whirl, but not with the normal/regular wash setting. It's still worth it, though. UPDATE October 5 2018 Back up to 5 stars ! After buying the 2.5 gallon version, I notice that the water sits very very low in the basin, which allows dust/hair/food to linger at the surface of the water. So, I drilled three small holes into the side of the black plastic cap piece about mid-way down, and now the water level comes up much higher in the basin (SEE PICTURE SHOWING ONE OF THE HOLES). The surface of the water stays a lot cleaner for a lot longer now, and the cats (both of which are fairly small) don't have to dip their entire heads into the bowl to drink.

Perfect for Single Dogs, Wish I’d Gone Bigger!
I absolutely love this gravity waterer! It works exactly as advertised - keeps fresh water available all day without any fuss. The quality is great and my dogs took to it immediately. My only regret? I should have bought the 3-gallon version for my two dogs. The 1-gallon is perfect for a single dog, but with two pups, I’m refilling more often than I’d like. Lesson learned - size up if you have multiple pets! Overall, fantastic product that I’d definitely recommend. Just make sure you get the right size for your pack!

There's not much to say about this. It's great for my cat, and I can't imagine it being any different for small to medium dogs. I only fill it up about half way and leave it out for a week. I have a medium cat and about half is all he needs in that time. I take it apart when I need to refill, but only after rinsing each part twice first. It's very fast to do. This has not gotten dirty or moldy at all in a month. I would say my biggest issue with this is that there's some kind of "chamber" or ridge in the bowl that lines the sides where the jug connects. This can fill up and hide water, so you just need to make sure that it's being cleaned too. Just turn the blue piece upside down while rinsing and shake clean. Maybe that's why some other reviews have issues.

This is one large water dispenser. It arrived in a huge box (Amazon Style), and first impressions was it size. The water container is very large - 9lt I think and does the job perfectly. Things to note: the water container has a screw lid, easy to fit and get off with no moving parts. When off the opening to the water container is so large you can fit your hand in making cleaning a doddle. Fill with water place it on the base unit upside down and tip the whole unit the right way up and away you go. The water reservoir has a lip around its edge stopping the water spilling out with any accidental knocks. Overall brilliant product. For information this is the 3rd water dispenser we have had for the dogs, the previous two were of another make with a very weak screw thread that has broken, not with this unit! Two dogs well pleased and hydrated.

Bought this for my German Shepherd who drains her water bowl. She loves it and prefers to drink from this than any other bowl. The large capacity means she has water all day and I don't have to constantly check and refill a water bowl.
