A Picture Book of Florence Nightingale (Picture Book Biography)

Good Choice.
You won’t regret this purchase. It’s easy to understand and the pictures are so lovely. I bought this for a 7 year old, to get her thinking of types of careers. It’s never too early for a kid to imagine what he/she would like to do when he/she grows up - whether it’s to be a fireman, policeman, carpenter, nurse or astronaut!

Informative and Engaging
My 5-year-old dressed up as Florence for All Saints' Day. This book gave her a lot of information while still holding her attention. She loved it! She had three Florence books, but chose this one to take with her to her grandparents' houses to help her tell about Florence's life and how she "obeyed God gladly."

This is a great book. Very informative
This is a great book. Very informative, but not so much information that it overwhelms kids. I read this book to my 2nd and 3rd grade Girl Scouts while we were working on the “My Promise, My Faith” (considerate & caring) pin. It was a hit!

An Abundance of Info
I read this book to my first grade class on Nurse's Day this year. We then compared Florence Nightingale to Clara Barton. There aren't many children's books written on this historical figure. You can always count on the author, David Adler, to deliver the best biographies for kids:-)

It did the job.
We bought this book for our Brownie Girl Scout Troop as we are learning about women who made a difference in the world. We will then be donating the books. This book did the job. It was informative with what Florence Nightengale observed, recognizing a need for change, and some of the things that she did to make those changes. The illustrations are a great visual for this age range. Honestly, the girls got bored quickly. It was wordy, swimming with dates, and big names that just didn't seem that important to the story. They don't need to know the date for every time she made a decision. I ended up summarizing each page to get straight to the point. We didn't finish the book to the end. Would I buy it again? I'm not sure as I'd have to look at the alternatives.

Grandkids were fascinated
My grandkids were fascinated with this story. The book was in like-new condition, and is a wonderful way to present history in a personalized, interesting manner. The four-year-old's parents were dumbfounded when she later answered a radio question about a famous nurse with "Florence Nightingale!"

Lovely book to use with KS1. The children were very engaged and asked a lot of questions. There is a synopsis/timeline at the back for quick reference as well.

Not a great book but great customer service.
I personally would not say it is suitable for KS1 children as the storyline is very old fashioned (and sorry to say, boring). It mentions Florence being 'very pretty' and talks about 'the man (she) adored' how she did not like to 'make a show' of herself. It also mentions how the nurses used to drink whiskey and how she was poorly a lot and when she died. Most of the book mentions what Florence did at various dates in great detail that is not really that relevant to her cause. It was bought for a 6 year old Florence for her birthday but I did not feel happy to give it to her due to the content. I was really hoping for more of a focus on the actual work that she did rather than dates and old fashioned terminology. 3 stars however as customer service was great and Amazon refunded the book.
