Contigo Luxe AUTOSEAL Mug, 16 oz, Frosted Pearl

I like this bottle for it's pretty pearlescent finish and high performance. It keeps hot drinks hot and does not leak. The lock button and ease of cleaning are the best features.

I love this thing. I wanted one I could throw in my bag because I have a new baby and a lot to haul around. It keeps things hot for hours, it doesn’t leak or spill, and it’s easy to drink from. People say the top gets hot, well yeah, but not too hot to touch. It’s easy to clean and easy to hold. I’m happy with it.

I love this cup so much that I have 3 of them, spouse has two and I've purchased for my immediate family as well. It's the perfect cup to convince my elderly family to drink more water. This cup allows them to drink it at their preferred temperature...even if it's in the middle if the night.When I leave my home, my phone and my cup definitely go with me.

I have owned other Contigo products (AUTOSEAL West Loop) and was extremely pleased with their design in performance and appearance, but they were not dishwasher safe. They proved to be the best travel mugs I had ever purchased. However, I grew tired of always hand washing despite the task not really being all that difficult. Sometimes you are just too tired or lazy and question why isn’t that expensive machine doing this task for me?This model (Luxe AUTOSEAL) claims to be completely dishwasher safe. I purchased it expecting all of my happiness with the previous purchases (AUTOSEAL West Loop), but with the added improvement of being completely dishwasher safe. The disadvantage, however, in my experience with Luxe is that beverages are not nearly as hot after 5 hours compared to West Loop. There is significantly more heat exchange to the stainless steel lid of Luxe which increases the heat loss of the beverage. The heat transfer is very noticeable when the mug is completely full. The transfer of heat is so great that the lid is hot to the touch. It hasn’t been hot enough to burn me, but I do cautiously place my lips against it when taking the early sips. The entirely plastic lid of West Loop appears to have better insulation and doesn’t get nearly as hot to the touch.Overall, I would say that Luxe is a more expensive, but not superior product from Contigo compared to their West Loop. I would give both products 4 stars. Luxe loses a star because it doesn’t keep beverages hot to 5 hours as claimed (more like 3-4 hours). West Loop loses a star for the inconvenience of hand washing the body.Since the two designs are fairly equivalent with subtle differences, your choice between them should be:Luxe AUTOSEAL: If you want the convenience of entirely dishwasher safe and you typically consume all of your beverage within two hours.AUTOSEAL West Loop: If you don’t mind hand washing the body (lid is dishwasher safe) and you want it to still be hot, not just warm, after 5 hours.I still think both are the best travel mugs I have purchased. The Luxe AUTOSEAL just fell short of my expectations having prior experience with the AUTOSEAL West Loop.Someone at work stole one of my Contigo Luxe AUTOSEAL mugs on my second day of using it. I hope they hand wash it every time for years not knowing they could have put it all in the dishwasher.

There are features of other portable carafes that are nice, such as a contoured shape or a rubberized grip or a comfortable lip to drink from when the lid is not being used, however this is a no-nonsense, leak-proof solution for which I can forgive the other missing nice-to-haves. I am a distracted fool when I'm carrying my drink along with other stuff. I always tip the drink and no other product that I have tried is completely leak proof. Drops of coffee or something always ends up on my papers or in my satchel or on my car seat as I get in. This product is normally closed. You don't have to explicitly seal the opening (even though all those other products don't actually seal). As soon as you stop pressing the open button opposite the drinking spot, the lid seals. This introduces some interesting effects that you probably haven't experienced with the typical slide- or twist-to-close lids. The main one is that a hot liquid will cause steam to build up. This lid is unique in that it will hold that pressure in. Then, when you press the button to open it, a puff of hot steam comes out. So, don't press the button when you have it already up to your mouth to take a sip! Ouch! I mainly say this to impress upon you how well this unit seals. Every other drink carafe I've used will leak if it isn't perfectly upright as the steam pressure builds up. Their "close" position simply won't hold that pressure and the steam pushes the drink out through whatever closure is intended to keep it from spilling. This product solves that, which is why I bought it, and I'm very satisfied with it. Not recommended for drinking from without the special lid since the lip of the body is rather thin and uncomfortable. Oh, and the lid closure mechanism can be released in order to clean the opening and the rubber gasket that would normally be closed and potentially trapping residue. That's another problem with many other mechanisms - you can't completely clean them. Sorry this is so long!
