The Creative Pattern Book: Complete Patterns, Intriguing Ideas & Musings on the Creative Process

I loved a pattern in this book and am making a quilt for my son from one of the patterns. I would not recommend this book to anyone except someone who has quilted A LOT. There is literally no instructions for the quilt. I had to figure it out and the sizes of the pieces along the way.

A friend from Quilt Guild had made several of the quilts from this book,, I decided I wanted it in my own library. Good copy, one page creased but overall very good.

I bought it for a specific pattern. Directions are in some kind of short hand. If you study it I'm sure it will make sense. However I believe it could have been done better. I feel like I am guessing,Example 136 A (picture of a square) p. 16Does this mean look at page sixteen to see how they should be cut.I have other patterns. They read cut 8 2 1/2 strips width of fabric then cut strip into 136 2 1/2 in. squares.Patterns are great. directions.....not so much.

nice directions. i wasn't blown away. I own about 200 quilt books and I would say this one was just average. bought for 1 quilt and then it will prob sit on a shelf

Great creative ideas for quilts abound in this book. I bought the book primarily for one pattern: Shakespeare In The Park but have enjoyed other patterns and her narrative. Makes a great addition to my quilting library.

I have to only give this book three stars. I am a beginner quilter, maybe an advanced beginner, and found this book to be repetitive. I actually bought the book for one certain quilt pattern, and for the price I was okay with that. Normally I like to get a little more bang for my buck. All in all though, out of 30 quilts I found three I plan to make. It does show how color choice and use can make a huge difference. The photos are awesome, the directions are clear and easy to follow. For that reason I would recommend this book. Not so sure it one I would want to keep on the reference shelf, but that is just my personal taste. I am sure that many quilter's would find this a must have book. I do not recommend this for a very new, just starting, quilter unless you have a friend or really helpful local quilt store to help you out from time to time.

Judy lays out her instructions diff than what I am use to going by but will pick them up quickly. I had borrowed a friends to thumb through and decided I need this book in my collection. We saw some of her quilts on display at the quilt museum in Paducah, KY. Very nice quilts.

Great quilt patterns!!

Full of lovely quilts, with full instructions and lots of hints. Most of the quilts are based on stars. I bought the book because I knew that the famous Shakespeare in the park quilt was in side, but there are other beautiful quilts too, with different versions of each. This book is a few years old now, but still very much worth buying.

I have another book by Judy Martin which I love and have made beautiful log pattern quilts. This book, The Creative Pattern Book, meets my expectations and I will shortly be starting on another quilt.

if you love quilting this book is a 'must have'. will inspire you! So many good ideas, easily explained with detailed patterns and suggestions for making the quilt unique.

Really nice book,like the rest of Judy's Martin.Handy tips,lots of ideas.

It is everything I expect from Judy Martin. Lots of advice on colours, cutting and construction, even yardage. Excellent for beginners and experienced patchworkers. I would advise new sewers to read it right from the Introduction, you will learn lots of skills.
