For collectors
Weatherhill, NY, 1979. 263 pp, 10.5”x8”Intended for the collector, rather than the scholar, the periods Tokugawa, Meiji, Taisho, and early Showa are the only ones covered. One hundred thirty-six pieces, illustrated in full color in multiple views, are thoroughly described. The work is divided according to the category of material from which the netsuke/inro is made. After the sections on netsuke/inro, the author devotes a chapter to lacquer used for tea caddies and sake cups. There are 386 signatures of lacquer artists as a reference. Appendices include the making of an inro, pearl-shell inlays, and materials and techniques.

Always Superb.
If you have an interest in Netsuke or Inro, any book by Raymond Bushell is worth adding to your library. This is no exception.
