Absolutely superb
Without doubt, this is one of the best biopics I’ve ever watched. I’m not a huge Garland fan. I’ve always believed she had a rough deal from Meyer whilst a child on The Wizard of Oz set. This contributed to her later life difficulties and anxieties.Zellweger delivers a performance beyond belief. I literally gasped and did a double take when I first saw gar as Judy. The likeness is remarkable along with the way she’s captured many of the facial expressions and Garland’s way of moving. Her voice is incredible and she manages to capture all of Garland’s frailty and vulnerability in every scene. The story centres on the last months of Garlands life where, desperate to regain her children and buy a home, she agrees to a series of performances at The Talk of the Town in London. We all know it’s not going to end well, but I was engrossed throughout by the way the threads from her early life are cleverly interwoven by small flashbacks to set the scene for what was going on currently.I was impressed by Jessie Buckley’s performance as her PA. The pair worked really well together. There are a few extras on the dvd; the makeup scenes are intriguing, giving insight into the way in which she is transformed in appearance. Brilliant all round and a film I’ll watch again.

Forever in our hearts. . .
Judy Garland will live on forever in our hearts, she has so many enduring fans and I am just one of them. It is quite some achievement in itself that a film she made in 1939 is still regularly watched world wide, 81 years on. Renée Zellweger's performance is a justifiably award winning masterpiece, portraying Judy's difficult times in London. I could write so much about this film which I have now bought on DVD, but such a lot has already been written in other reviews, much of which I subscribe to, so I will mention some other films you may wish to check out which I also have enjoyed. Judy Davis portrays her well in The Story of Judy Garland - The Movie (2000). She is portrayed well in 1960s London by Tracie Bennett in The Long Firm 2004 (TV series on DVD starring Mark Strong) also in that film series is Johnnie Ray played to perfection by Tim Flavin. There are others, but these are notable in my opinion."Always be a first-rate version of yourself, instead of a second-rate version of somebody else". Worth a viewing.
I would love to give this film more stars. Being a fan of Judy Garland since I was 3! I admire Renee Zellweger’s acting immensely and she most surely deserved her awards for her portrayal of Judy. Yet the film has something missing. Perhaps the missing element is that intangible ingredient which cannot translate fully into film, a real deep, emotional connection created by the relationship of script, actors and directors. Compared to Walk the Line, it left me more than a little down. Perhaps I was picking upOn the tragedy of talent and the manipulation of people by people. Judy’s story is tragic and the script writer did manage to bring out the irony of a short life lived by a talented personality who should have been more cherished. That Judy/Frances was never in charge of herself and at the end suffered greatly for this paying with her life was expressed poignantly. Enjoy for me is not the correct term, it’s worth a watch but lacks something. Perhaps it lacks the icon herself.

An ok film
I bought this to see as I missed it at the cinema. I’m glad that I spent a small amount on this dvd as it was disappointing. I know it’s a true story but I think they should have made more of her when she was Dorothy and spread her story out better. Shame .

Disappointing
Renee Zellweger plays the part well and is almost unrecognisable from Bridget Jones or Jerry Maguires. However the film drags and snapshots into Garland's early life are not full enough to really give context. I felt the singing was well done (others disagreed) but you do not get her signature tune. I'd not rush to watch again.

Renee is a brilliant actress
Renee is a real performer, and I was so impressed with her performance in Bridget Jones with such a believable English accent (unlike Hugh Grant who plays Hugh Grant in every film he's in). I really didn't think she would pull off Judy's role as well as Bridget's, but I am pleased to say I was wrong, she was absolutely brillaint and deserves an oscar for her performance. So sad how badly the young Judy was treated and how it went onto affect the rest of her life. What a sad life she had and a sad loss of such talent at aged only 47.
