Edaphosaurus
He’s adorable! This was my first Collecta figure and I love it! It’s a great size to play with for kids but also for collectors like myself! I really enjoyed doing photography with this one!

Beautiful and Accurate
2019 CollectA Edaphosaurus Permian animals (other than Dimetrodon) are criminally underrepresented in media. Especially in the toy and model industry. Thankfully, companies have begun to show these bizarre creatures more love in recent years, with CollectA being one of the leaders of the pack. Edaphosaurus was a large synapsid from Permian North America. At first glance, one could easily mistake this animal for another, more famous sail backed Permian beast. However, unlike its apex predator cousin, Dimetrodon, Edaphosaurus was an herbivore. To my knowledge, this is the first scientifically accurate representation of this genus in figure form, and the only figure currently on the market. Thankfully, CollectA has really knocked this figure out of the park! The sculpt is exceptionally well done. The skin texture is mostly smooth, and almost mammalian. The skin is wrinkled, and bunched realistically as the legs push into the rest of the body, and stretched taught in the areas where the legs pull away. There is some beautiful wrinkling and sagging skin around the neck as well. The mammal-like skin transitions to fully reptilian scales along the belly. The scalation is really fine, and highly detailed. A cloaca is included for added anatomical accuracy and realism, which is always appreciated. Of course, the standout feature of Edaphosaurus is the magnificent sail. Edaphosaurus had a distinctly shaped sail, and featured boney protrusions along the edges of each of the extended vertebrae. CollectA has made sure to include this in their sculpt, which adds another layer of detail to the already beautiful sculpt. My only nitpick is that the gut could have been a bit more rotund. As an early herbivore, Edaphosaurus probably relied heavily upon a healthy gut microbiome in order to aid in digestion. The coloration is both vibrant, and naturalistic. There’s a lot going on with the bluish grays of the body, the pink in the sail, green and brown splotches, and stripes along the tail. It all blends nicely, and feels believable for the animal. The claws are painted a dark gray, and are beautifully applied. The eyes are solid black with a heavy gloss. They, also, are expertly applied, and give the figure a real sense of life. This is a stellar representation of one of the signature Permian beasts. If you’re looking to expand your prehistory collection, I wholeheartedly recommend picking this one up. It’s unique, beautiful, and accurate. It’s also just nice to have Permian creatures that aren’t Dimetrodon. This is, honestly, one of the best figures I’ve picked up this year!

Gorgeous, handsome!
Edaphosaurus was the vegetarian version of dimetrodon. This is a gorgeous little model of a handsome, pre-dinosaur creature.

EDAPHOSAURUS!
This guy is so beautifully made and colored! My only minor gripe is that there's not a larger-size version of this!
