Fantastic method for building reading comprehension.
I love this book and it's method for improving reading comprehension.I'm a month into using this book daily, with my twin 9 year old boys. We've followed the recommended format and do one exercise daily, which takes less than 15 mins, including the discussion afterwards. Each exercise asks the reader to sketch what they see in their mind from the prompt. At the start, prompts are single words. As the weeks build, prompts move to phrases then sentences. The practical application of these exercises is it causes the reader to reflect and build a mental image of what's written. I reference this concept throughout our other reading and writing activities during the day, "Think about when we draw a picture of what we read... What do you see here?"For reference, my kids aren't on a spectrum. They are proficient readers. The faster of the two of them struggled more with comprehension, while his speed was very high for his age. Although, we haven't retested his level yet, I can see improvement in how he pays attention more to what he's reading rather than just reading it as quickly as possible. Both of of the boys and I enjoy these exercises. I highly recommend this book.

Must have
I grew up in a home with very little education. I always struggled and this book really helped. Really easy to read and understand with many great tips and tools.

Good Tool
This little book was used with some of my tiered reading group. It was suggested I try visualization with some for comprehension skills. "My" kids loved the warm ups from this book and would have done them all day if I let them. Did it help them? I think it did - proves you can have fun while learning/working.

Reading comprehension step by step
The 3rd grader I am working with has had considerably bad hearing loss. Hopefully this situation has been rectified. The student reads very well but has very little comprehension. I have learned that being able to hear is necessary for reading comprehension. This book is amazing. It really starts at ground zero for comprehension and slowly builds. The first third of the lessons the student just draws pictures. I believe we are getting ready for more reading in the lessons now. It is hard to explain, but at this point, I feel the book is a miracle worker. So thankful I purchased it.

Fair
I would love to have had more instructional components. Pages are small, hard to use in a group of students. The ideas are good and the visualization sentences are overall good, but some are really hard for students to draw in a timely fashion. Hard to show Brazil as the where in a few minutes!!

Awesome Resource For Unique Minds
As an adult that struggled with special needs and accommodations in school, this book put into words what I could never explain as my learning style. Many times, neuro-atypical people have the main idea and intuition down, but have the biggest struggle with identifying the steps and details. This is the case with just about all of my students that I tutor. This book is great for kids and teens that deal with ADHD, autism spectrum, and specific learning disabilities to practice the important patterns and structure found in language arts. You might even learn something new about yourself while you're at it!

Helped son with ASD
I got this book because my son's school psycologist said he was having trouble with comprehension when it came to reading. Right when I opened the book my son fought me so we started slow, but come to find out-he could not imagine some of the words or draw it. So I showed him a picture of what it was they were asking. It has helped him a lot. Defiantly recommend.

Buy It
This is a fantastic book and I wish I knew about it sooner. I am a Literacy Specialist at a school for students on the autism spectrum. I am thoroughly impressed with this product. I will buy more books from this author. Fascinating, appropriate & effective strategies to break down and then rebuild concepts.
