Live Right 4 Your Type: 4 Blood Types, 4 Programs -- The Individualized Prescription for Maximizing Health, Metabolism, and Vitality in Every Stage of Your Life (Eat Right 4 Your Type)

Proof is in the pudding... so to speak.
I've read reviews both good and bad on the idea of the blood-type diet. I'm not going to get into the theory behind all that for the sake of brevity but will just focus on my experience, which to me is the most important. For a decade I have been concerned with health, diet, fitness, and nutrition. I've practiced regular exercise, cooking for myself the majority of the time, and eating healthy, fresh, and organic foods as often as possible. I ate fresh fruits and vegetables multiple times per day as well. I shop mainly at Whole Foods and farmers markets and when I ate meat, it was the best quality stuff that I could get. I am a male in my mid-thirties and have never been anywhere near over-weight. On the contrary, I am tall and quite thin, but not a rail. I did not start this diet to lose weight and actually losing muscle mass was a concern of mine when starting this diet. For my entire life I have struggled with drastic swings in energy level and mental clarity (brain-fog) throughout any given day, especially after meals. I had heard positive things about the blood-type diet years ago from a co-worker. One morning, after having plenty of rest for a couple of days, I woke up, yet again, with no energy. I literally said to myself, "There's no good reason for this. I've had enough!" And there and then I decided to give the blood-type diet a try. I decided to go all out for one month and then go from there. My blood-type is A, so I was quite dismayed when I looked at the A-type diet and saw that at it's strictest adherence level, it's pretty much a vegan diet. My initial reaction was actually one of slight anger, but I would not be swayed and continued on. I am very glad that I did. For years I have limited my consumption of dairy and wheat, because I had some adverse reactions to them- nothing serious, but I noticed that too much wheat made me crash and some dairy gave me lousy gas after eating it. That's not to say that I completely cut them out, but I limited them considerably, and it turns out that my gut feeling was a good one.In a nutshell, my brain-fog and energy swings are now gone. Turns out that they were my body's way of telling me it didn't like what it was getting (actually, it was my body's reaction to struggling to digest the food that I was eating, which is the main point behind the diet). I thought that these swings were just a part of living, but it turns out that life doesn't have to be that way. I also HAD a problem with over-production of mucous since I was a child, which is genetic, and that too has been remedied. I breath and think much more clearly and consistently. My moods are much more stable and consistent and I deal with stress much more effectively. I wake up in the morning with energy, which was rarely the case before. I feel better than I ever have in my life, and this is helping me to be the best me that I can be on a consistent basis. All this, and I noticed an improvement on day one of the diet and it just kept getting better until it leveled off about two weeks in. I am now in the 7th week and have no plans of going back. I could talk AT LENGTH about the subtleties, but won't go on.Lastly, I've purchased most of the stuff that Dr. D'Adamo has written. While I would recommend reading everything, I recommend reading this book first along with the pocket-guide for your specific type. It is newer, a bit more fine-tuned, and more pertinent to total life-style, all the while still having plenty of info on diet and nutrition. And contrary to arguments I've read, this book is extremely well researched and has footnotes to medical studies for every suggestion he makes. It is quite in-depth, even more so than "Eat Right For Your Blood Type". As I read, I keep finding explanations for why I've reacted in certain ways to certain foods and activities for my entire life. It's been very nice to have an explanation for so many things.I am still fine-tuning/personalizing this diet and will be for many, many months to see what level of adherence suits me best. I have been very strict with it thus far and feel INCREDIBLE, but will slowly and methodically try eating some more neutral foods here and there to see how I react to them, as now, when I eat something that "my body doesn't like" I feel it within an hour. What a difference this has made in my quality of life!

Overall a GREAT book and the BEST change I've ever made for my health
I started this diet for O blood 6 months ago and I have lost 51 pounds. It may not be for everyone, nothing ever is, but I thought I would see how it goes and now I will never go back because it's worked so well. I recommend it to everyone to at least try for a month and see how you feel.I know its extremely hard to give up potatoes, being American it is a huge part of our diet, but according to the book it is the potato that made me have no energy! I don't eat any potatoes but I do give a little leeway with gluten free crackers that have potato starch, as long as it's in moderation I will be OK. I do not, however, eat ANY wheat. My reason for starting this diet is fertility and weight issues, and for that the book says to have ZERO corn and ZERO wheat. Which, again, is very difficult when you learn all the millions of things that have corn and wheat in. Really, knocks out like 99% of food. Rice crispies are NOT gluten free, but Chex has a gluten free line (also free of corn and potato). Namaste has a spice cake mix that is free of all of these. GemWraps has a 100% tomato, carrot or mango chipotle wrap for sandwich wraps. There ARE foods out there it's just a bit difficult to find them. The less ingredients, the better.I have no more insomnia, I go to bed reasonably tired and I can fall asleep much, much faster than before. My energy levels are way up as a result. I exercise according to the recommendations and I feel "pumped" and I definitely see a difference in muscle tone. No wonder Yoga didn't seem to do much, I needed to do more aerobic things like kickboxing! (I still do poses to help occasional back pain though) I have had 2 small headaches in 6 months, where I used to have one before every storm, and other headaches at least twice a week. I like that it shows supplements like L-Tyrosine to help mood and carb cravings, as well as different blood types needing different levels of exercise. It all seems to be correct there. This book shows many foods that are Beneficial, Neutral or Avoid for your type and my doctor says stick to it 80% and you should be well on your way.I'm not so sure about the blood type being linked to personality and even eye color, but who knows. I know of O blood people with all different eye colors. So, as with everything, take the time to listen to your body and take it with a grain of salt and make your own decision.

Very enlightening, helpful and easy to read
Purchased this book after a coworker recommendation regarding the diet that helped her regulate her metabolism, weight and hormones. I have been utilizing the diet recommendations from this book for a few months now and its made some amazing changes to my body in ways I didn’t realize I needed. I haven’t lost a bunch of weight but a good 10 lbs and slowly going down each week plus feeling more energized and not lethargic, less hungry overall, hair and skin much improved also. Overall is a great wealth of knowledge especially with what foods were affecting my body in a bad way and I never even realized why certain foods made me feel sick or drained after consuming them all my life. Highly recommend this book to help regulate how your body processes food depending on your blood type.

Closer to solving the mystery
So glad I purchased this book! I’m type A and it’s all making sense now. I’ve struggled with weight loss, water retention, headaches and new allergies just to name a few ... very complicated. I’m looking forward to seeing the changes from following the recommendations for my blood type.
