Easy recipes that use everyday ingredients. - - Updated 6-6-15
I needed some new recipe ideas when my husband and I found out we both have high cholesterol. It's not so bad that we're taking medication, but we thought that eating healthier was necessary to avoid it in the future. This book came highly recommended, and it hasn't disappointed me yet. I highlighted all of the recipes that had ingredients we would eat and was pleasantly surprised to find that we had plenty of options. So many healthy cookbooks are filled with items that we don't like, or use random ingredients for every recipe so I would constantly be buying a million ingredients for a week's worth of meals. This book is great because a lot of the recipes use the same types of ingredients, so as long as I make sure I keep those items stocked, I'm good to go. (I'm talking broth, some packaged salmon, fresh meat, tomatoes, bell peppers, etc. - nothing crazy.) I did have to restock my spices and herbs because I never used many before. That was a little costly, but almost all of the recipes use them so they won't go to waste and they provide a lot of flavor. The recipes are really simple and pretty quick too, so I don't mind making dinner after a long day. We've really enjoyed everything so far, except for the slow cooker chicken meal they have listed here. We're not big fans of artichokes, so it was a risk going in. Anyway, this is now my everyday cookbook. We'll see if it helps our numbers!Edit 6-6-15: I've been cooking from this book (and using some other low cholesterol recipes too) for about 9 months, and I've seen a great improvement in my cholesterol numbers. My labs were actually drawn in April and all of my numbers improved. HDL improved from 46 to 61, LDL improved from 170 to 121, and the ratio improved from 5.0 to 3.48. I did add some stationary cycling in January so I'm sure that helped, but it's not like I'm doing it 7 days a week. This book has definitely helped improve our diet and saved us some money on our health insurance since I'm now in the company's preferred group.

Not the one.
In a recent move, I misplaced my AHA cookbook that had several recipes that I used often. In searching I thought this may be it but after reviewing it, it is not the one I hoped it would be. The selection of recipes in this edition are not as motivating as the one I had--it was an earlier edition and I didn't see a familiar cover in the available offerings. It does have a similar chicken stir fry that I had used from the earlier edition. There are a couple others that will be interesting to try.

If you're having an issue ... a fine solution.
This is another of a series of cookbooks from The American Heart Association and it's also a winner. My medical 'problem' was diagnosed as high cholesterol and I looked forward to eating 'grass and water chestnuts' ... that is, until I discovered these books which also give you delicious solutions for your 'fat' problems.Page after page of delicious recipes changed my attitude towards how I would be dining. You may have to stock up on some grocery items and spices that might not be on your shelf, but once that's done you're ready to dig in. One of the books has a recipe for cheesecake made with non-fat yogurt, which has a rich enough taste to fool many of my friends. When you decide to face your 'issues' and order these books ... help will definitely be on the way. Bon appetit!

Soo good!!!!
Such delicious recipes!!! Every one a winner!!! Balsalmic chicken, Asian chicken, non-fried "fried" chicken all wonderful. I bought this book because I need to limit fats in my diet and this book does not disappoint. But I should have bought it YEARS ago because the recipes are so great. After your married a long time (51 years for us) you can get in a rut and cook the same things in the same way decade after decade. No longer. Every week has a surprise dish in it,something from the cookbook. I love it so much I bought a second copy and gave it as a gift to my best friend..

Well worth having
Recipes are clear and easy to follow. Fat and cholesterol counts are right there, so there's no guesswork. You will find a lot of old family favorits in this cookbook, but don't expect them to taste exactly like the originals. The meatloaf with apricot glaze is very good, but you may need to add some of your own seasonings if you want it to taste "just like Mom used to make." Just enjoy the recipes for themselves. I intend to use this cookbook extensively.

Good Book
Good easy to read. If they made a version like this for Keto I would snap it up! We went the other way on our diet after I bought this book. Nice presentation, easy to read and nutritional values are a plus. You know what you're getting. Not a complicated presentation and ingredient lists are just enough, not too much.

I am serious about lowering my cholesterol.
I've had high blood pressure for years and wanted to control it naturally but lack of discipline got me into deep trouble, not smart! I've done a ton of study and bought lots of nutritional books and diet cook books but they are packed away in storage. So when I had my STROKE! I got serious about my diet. I am taking my blood pressure medicine like it is my religion now. Discovered my cholesterol levels were LDL 287 and HDL 25 so ordered Slo-niacin, Grape seed extract and this cookbook. This book is for people who have normal levels and do not want problems. For us with high LDL and low HDL it is a death trap. Ham (Na 1100mg/ 4 oz slice) low fat buttermilk, half and half, cottage cheese, cream cheese, corn oils (GMOs), vegetable oils, light mayonnaise, etc, etc. I was so looking forwards to all the mouth watering recipies I have in storage but this book is not what I want, much to conventional for me, no wonder the American Heart Association recommends it, it will keep going to the doctors for the rest of your drug induced life! In two weeks I have had to adjust my medicine from 10mg to 7.5 and looks like I better go to 1/2 dosage now, blood pressure is 114/71 consistently and feel light headed about 2-4 hrs after dosage. My personal recommendation for you with high blood pressure and bad choloresterol, Don't buy this book, find more healthy cookbooks elsewhere, and they might even have pictures!

Healthy cooking for your heart.
Although I prefer no fat and no cholesterol, this cookbook meets my expectations. The only way to cook and eat. Substitute cream and butter for oil
