Great sound at an affordable price.
I challenged myself this go around too install the most Inexpensive sound system I could & NOT suffer in sound quality. I did NOT want to spend more than $40 on a deck. My goal was to NOT catch the eye of thieves & still enjoy a nice sounding car system. That said, I read the reviews for many lower end head units & this one kept popping up. I am extremely pleased with this purchase for what this unit can do. For a 'cheap' replacement this unit sounds very clean. Crisp highs & solid lows. It's just ' meat & potatoes ', no frills mobile audio which was EXACTLY what I was looking for. It does not have subwoofer controls but it DOES have the RCA input for one/some in the rear of the unit. If you have a remote knob for your amp this really shouldn't matter too you IF you don't it's a simple tweek of the bass EQ & poof...no biggie, it's all how you set up your sound settings. I've had MANY car stereo head units in my day & I can tell you that as far as the sound quality goes; this unit produces on par with higher end names. (This unit replaced an aging Alpine deck) No, The build quality is NOT on par with brands such as Alpine, you can tell it's made for it's price point. BUT After it's installed it does Look nice for what it is & it isn't overly bright/distracting at night unlike the Alpine was. As pointed out by another review, if the face of the unit is in sunlight it can be somewhat difficult to see the screen readout but As far as I am concerned I will be driving anyways so I like the fact it's easy to use/control without looking at it. so in my opinion the screen not being 'bright enough' in sunlight means little to me. The sound quality is clean from the USB input (which will charge an iPod/iPhone or or other device) & the SD card slot sounds just as clear. As for the Aux input, you can tweek the EQ of the device that you plug in too further enhance the sound settings if you choose. I like that it has the SD card slot (I have a 32g card in it & it reads it with NO problems) so I can always have what I want to hear without having to worry about someone breaking into my car cuz I forgot to 'hide' my iPod or other MP3 player or see a USB Drive sticking out. I've lived in high crime areas & I can say from experience after having my car broken into that IF you leave 'bait' in view of a thief they WILL take it, 'Out if sight/out of mind' is the name of that game. The less you leave visible the less likely you will loose it to sticky fingers! At night it's very hard to see this unit cuz it has no shinny surfaces or knobs, which I see as a BIG plus. The face is NOT detachable. Which I am quite fine with. The unit itself is secured in my dash with hex screws so it not having a detachable fact is no big deal. It has No CD player & again like another person pointed out this is where mobile media is headed. CD's are basically a thing if the past. I personally like that. They are too bulky & scratch far to easy to have in a vehicle anyway. In closing, if you're in the market for a simple, very nice sounding replacement deck for your car/truck this unit should fill your requirements without a problem & not hurt the wallet too badly. Plus IF you get broken into they aren't getting much.

Best price for a decent SD-capable radio
I purchased this to achieve total freedom from CDs in my car, and I am really enjoying it now! This was my first time installing an aftermarket car radio, and installation was easy enough. However I had to try twice to find the right adapter kit for my car model...it's like the auto manufacturers make it ridiculously confusing on purpose. Sigh. This unit is perfect as a cheap yet fully functional radio. If you are serious about audio quality, or are picky about electronics interfaces, or are willing to spend more money, or want a unit with an above average power amplifier... this is probably not the unit for you. On the other hand if you really don't care a ton about those things, and just want a good basic unit at a value price, I would highly recommend this product (and I would not recommend going with anything even cheaper than this). I've had this for 1 year and it has shown no signs of early mortality. Seems robust enough. Other reviewers pointed out that it doesn't remember your volume level. This is a feature, not a bug: If you left the radio turned all the way up, your spouse probably doesn't want it to be that way when they start the car next time. When the volume is turned all the way up, it is about as loud as I would ever want it to be. It is not, however, loud enough to hurt my ears. So if you like to listen to your music really loud, you might not think this unit can get quite loud enough. But the amp power seems sufficient for average non-audiophiles. When playing from SD card, it DOES remember the song/position where you left off, and picks up from there when you start the car again...this was an important feature for me. Really the only feature this doesn't have, which does disappoint me, is ability to browse songs by folder. The only way to browse quickly is via the +10 and -10 buttons. But moving 10 tracks isn't very helpful when you really just want to find the first track on some other album. If you have a 16GB SD card completely full of music like I do, it's rather slow and painful to browse to an album at the end of the sequence. So this unit is better for those who want to play everything in order and don't care about skipping around. I definitely like my Blaupunkt Melbourne 120 a lot better (looks more classy, has folder browsing, interface and display are nicer), but it costs more than twice as much and doesn't do a whole lot more. So if you're looking for the best value for just simply playing SD cards... this radio can't be beat.
