Q: can you attach the 3ft chains (birds)to each other to extend length?

Hello Bunny,Yes, I have actually heard many people doing this. Some are even mixing the different styles available. (Dragonfly, Butterfly and Bird) The only thing is, the last bird of the chain doesn't seem to have anything to attach to, so I can't figure out how they are doing it. Q: do you need an adapter?

A double hook worked fine to add on . The only problem ours rusted out the first year and we had to throw it away .

They aren't very long. And depending on how you may want to use them and the height of your home, you may need two or more. Mine do not touch the ground because I use mine to drain into rain barrels and flower pots.
