I've dealt with chronic pain for 20 years, most of my life. There are few things that have been able to temporarily help ease the pain. These rollers are super easy to use. I don't have to get my hands sticky or smelly, and the cooling slick liquid dries fairly quickly on the skin. It smells like menthol since it's in there, and it smells very medicinal. Despite that, the scent fades very quickly.... Unlike Tigerbalm, which smells super strong, but works super well in healing muscles and soreness. I use this roller on my knees, my shoulder/back area, and even on my forehead when my chronic headache gets severe. It feels soothing. I don't think it's a great idea for everyone to use on their heads. It IS liquid, and you really don't want to have this drip into your eyes. The biofreeze may sting a bit for some people, and it would hurt like hell if you applied to broken skin or cuts, so don't do that. Otherwise, it's quite relaxing. It has an instant cooling effect, and I like the numerous natural ingredients that are used in it. The cooling effect is somewhat similar to applying ice. It helps to numb the pain a bit. Or at least that's what your brain will tell you. For severe pain, it probably won't make anything necessarily disappear, but this is a valuable "lazy" weapon in my pain warrior arsenal. It takes only a few seconds to apply, which is helpful for my situation with fibromyalgia and chronic pain. I find it cumbersome to have to do too much work when I'm in so much constant pain. The numbing does wear off, but the point of feeling temporary pain relief is to calm down from that high point of distress, and to get past that moment. When we can distract ourselves from moment to moment, each little bit of relief is a welcome win. Stress obviously puts our body and mind under more strain, which easily makes us more tense and feel more pain. So relaxation is vital in battling chronic pain and muscle ache. Also, there is a psychological aspect that can be helpful, similar to the placebo effect. This Biofreeze Professional roller does actually help with pain relief, but knowing and hoping it WILL can go a long way. Distraction has always been the only real thing that takes away my pain. That and sleep. When I feel happy to be with friends, I don't feel as much pain. Unfortunately that's not often anymore since i became so ill. But there is a DBT technique called the "Half-Smile"... Close your eyes, and even when you feel miserable, smile with your lips like you feel nice. Try to hold that smile for a bit longer each time. It actually tricks your brain into thinking you're happier than you are. Your facial affect and brain are closely knit. They are connected, and the "fake it til you make it" saying actually makes perfect sense. I use all sorts of other pain relief products, including Arnica Montana tablets and pellets, an electric heat pad, a moist heat shoulder wrap filled with lavender and herbs, a cold gel pack, ice pack, various painkillers & a muscle relaxant (the goal is to eventually be able to manage with less and less and go totally natural), and muscle blocks. They dig into my back muscles and feel so good. I also use aromatherapy, and diffuse essential oils like lavender, lemon, grapefruit, tangerine, clementine and bergamot. The oils can also be diluted with carrier oils like almond, fractionated coconut, or sunflower oil and rolled onto your forehead for headaches: Peppermint, Lavender, Eucalyptus, Thyme, Wintergreen and Naiouli are a few that are useful for pain relief. Turmeric Curcumin with Bioperine (a black pepper that helps w/digestion) is very, very popular in relieving inflammation, muscle and joint pain, sprains, bruises, etc. There are plenty of other helpful natural supplements. Curcumin is also extremely good for your health overall. ALSO magnesium! Most of us are deficient in magnesium, which you can get through epsom salt baths, and magnesium lotions, flakes and sprays. It can help with pain, sleep, and relaxation as well. Stay hydrated. Using a fruit infuser helps with that. Amazon has so many good bottles and pitchers, like mine from Takeya. This Biofreeze product does work a little better than I'd expected. It doesn't always work great for my chronic pain, but I do definitely notice some temporary relief. It's relieving to have something right at my bedside for when the pain hits hard. There are so many Biofreeze products that are so similar that it was like a maze. But I'm glad I got this. I also got the spray to try as well. The "professional" un-dyed version is best. You really don't need a pretty fake color in your pain reliever to feel relief. Enjoy this and good luck. Best muscle rub

Excellent topical pain relief; better relief than Sombra (which comes in roll-on and gel forms), as well as various arnica gels and creams because of 10.5% menthol. It works in seconds, certainly less than a minute, and affords as much pain relief as a 20-30 min application of ice. The Biofreeze spray has helped with a variety of ortho conditions, including strains, sprains, tendinitis, chronic shoulder pain from severe traumatic arthritis, etc., making me more comfortable during the day and helping me sleep at night. I also sometimes awaken in pain and it's quick and easy to reapply. The Biofreeze spray is convenient to use because you can spray to almost any area of the body, without dealing with a messy cream or gel that requires you to wash your hands afterward. It is helpful to cover the area with a quick spray, otherwise spray will run down from the area applied. The Biofreeze roll-on is better in this respect, but in order to use the roll-on, you have to be able to reach the painful area to apply.

I was first introduced to BIO-FREEZE by my chiropractor years ago but he would always run out of his office supply when I needed it. I am thrilled this product can now be purchased through Amazon! This stuff really works. It rolls on and acts immediately ... within 1 minute. It's a good product. I do not have back problems, hip problems, nor have I had any surgeries that would require this medication. What I have a problem with from time to time is a stiff back from hard work, a neck that hurts from sleeping wrong, or muscle soreness for who knows why. In any case, BIO-FREEZE has always taken my pain away. It is amazing.

I've tried a number of topical analgesics, and Biofreeze is my favorite. Most of these products that use menthol as the main ingredient as very similar in pain relief effectiveness. This is a pump type spray, so it is not pressurized. Be aware of this in the event that you think you may have a problem using the pump action button (perhaps due to bad arthritis in your fingers, in which case you may want to try Freezeit pressurized spray which also works great). I took off one star because the photo in this product listing indicates "New Formula now with MSM," while the product that I received does not have the new MSM formula and the bottles look different than what is pictured in the product listing. I really don't care about the lack of MSM, but I am a firm believer in accurately depicting the product for sale in any product listing. But the Biofreeze is as effective as always, so I'm still happy with the purchase.

I was on a cruise in 2015. I was having knee pain. At one of the stops in St. Thomas there was a vendor selling Bio Freeze. My best friend went and bought me one and it did magic for me. Thanks to my bestie for looking out for me. I have shared some with friends and family.

Love my Biofreeze! I have used this product for over a year and ordered it thru the hospital but when I ordered it thru Amazon it was much less expensive and it comes to my door, I don't have to stand in line to get it! What I like about the product is it relieves those aches and pains that come with age, or over work. It sprays on so you can get to the middle of your back without help from someone else. It feels cool as it begins to work and it works for several hours. I began using it when my back went out over a year ago and in conjunction with chiropractic treatment I am pain free in my back now but I still use it for those times when I overdo and need a little relief from muscle aches. I would recommend this product for help in relieving pain but I also recommend for severe pain to check with a physician or chiropractor.
