The Solid Mount Fiberglass Shower Grab Bar Backer and Mounting Kit is uniquely designed for installing grab bars into pre-existing fiberglass showers and bathtubs. The Solid Mount is installed through the face of the fiberglass panel and uses a patented mounting assembly that attaches to the stud, sealing the hole and leaving a mounting surface to which a standard grab bar can easily be attached. This installation meets or exceeds ANSI and ADA safety requirements. When securely installed, the Solid Mount prevents the tearing apart of walls during installation of any grab bar. The Solid Mount can take up to 50-60 minutes to install and includes 2 mounting devices, 2 spacers, 6 stainless steel screws, and 2 bolts.

An important base for a solid mount.
Googling for the product, I discovered the video that gave a clear concise instructional about how to use it. It took me about twice as long as the 'suggested' installation time. But that was because I was determined to do it correctly- and I did.The shower mount is rock solid. The video maker has several good tips and tricks. I look forward to installing another mount in the second bathroom eventually- using this very item.

Grandma is safe again
Such a great piece of American innovation. I’m not sure what we would have done without this product. These are so sturdy and with the directions and videos online install was simple even for a none professional. The most difficult part was finding the studs behind the shower. Make sure you know where yours are located.

We’ll worth the extra effort to install.
In order to install correctly, extra care is necessary to locate wall studs behind the shower stall. Go slowly and determine the actual stud location after drilling a small hole at assumed stud location. If close but not exact, a second guide hole can be drilled as long as the first hole will be covered by the 2” hole saw. Great product!

Absolute Necessity to Secure Grab Bars in Fiberglass showers
The Good:-Securely mounted our grab bars to the wooden wall studs behind the fiberglass shower-Online video by the seller/creator (The SolidMount) was concise and well done (I watched it about four times before starting)-All of the included parts seem well made and meant to lastThe Bad:-I’ll admit this project was somewhat daunting to me. I’m comfortable with most DIY projects but drilling the Fiberglass and hoping those studs were in the right place was a little nerve-racking. I can’t stress enough how thankful I am for the manufacturer's YouTube how-to video. The Ugly:-The ONLY knock against this system is how far it extends the grab bar away from the wall of the shower. You can see in one of my pictures, there is a noticeable gap between the wall and the base of the bar, but it’s a minor trade-off compared to the benefit of real safety.

Mounting lag screw could have been slightly longer, but it is strong and solved my problem.
Mounting lag screw could have been slightly longer.I had to add a plywood washer to make it a little longer to fit my space behind the tub.It did fit and works well.

Secure Solution, Tricky to Install - Might want you provide your own bolts.
I installed 3 of these yesterday in my in-laws shower, which is a fiberglass surround. The 4th hole was not over a stud so I had to use a Moen SecureMount anchor (which was also great). The trickiness of the installation of these units has less to do with the product, and more with not knowing what is behind the fiberglass (how good was the builder? Are the studs plumb? Do the studs above the shower match what is below the top of the shower?, etc.). Luckily, if you follow the directions and drill a 2" hole, you can actually offset the bolt roughly 3/8" any direction the center point and the 'paddle' will still cover the hole, so it gives you a little wriggle room. Other than finding the stud, the 2nd most important part of the installation is ensuring your pilot hole for the bolt is plumb/square to the face of the shower wall. That way when you tighten down the 'paddle', it leaves little to no gaps.My only complaint with this product is that the first bolt I screwed into a stud sheered off before it was tightened all the way down. I went to the local hardware store and bought replacement bolts to complete the install. I just started a new hold to the side of the sheered bolt (see 3/8" comment above). In the end, the grab bars were very secure and had no movement at all.

Does exactly what it says
The instructions were spot on couldn't have asked for better. If you are installing a grab rail in a fiberglass shower these are a must.
