This book contains misprints which should be corrected in the next edition.

I've read a Russian translation of this book, bought not from Amazon.I've read a number of articles on Islamic Finances in the past and, given that my field of works is related to finance (software for capital markets) it looked to me like a very strange phenomenon designed only to work around some ancient dogmas of what is right or wrong.This book offers different perspective, which is not strictly attributed to the author's bias (he is one of the leading scholars and proponent of Islamic state) but to the fact that the author explains the idea behind such framework which is moral-based. I'm an atheist, but I see some sense it in even though I do not agree with the underlying idea. The especially interesting thing is that one of foundation of Islamic Finances it based on considering entrepreneurship and a market economy to be moral and thus subject to moral norms, which is different from Christianity where entrepreneurship at least which leads to accumulation of wealth is considered sinful.The author also discusses the reality of Islamic financial organizations which have to operate inside the "generally accepted" financial framework and how it leads to creation of financial structures which deviate from some of the Islamic norms, but are allowed as "exception".Another interesting thing is a general peek into legal/regulatory thinking of Islamic statesmen which is different from their Western peers.The book is very easy to read. My suggestion is to also read Debt: The First 5000 years by David Graeber as it provides another perspective on the origins of some of the norms which are the basis for Islamic Finances.I highly recommend this book.

Really good introduction to Islamic finance. Clear explanation of different types of finance by Mufti Taqi Usmani. He was once on Dow Jones Islamic Market™ Index Shari'ah Supervisory Board. Currently he is Chairman, International Shariah Standard Council, Accounting and Auditing Organization for Islamic Financial Institutions, Bahrain. Getting information from the right source is so vital for such a sensitive subject.About the price here on amazon, I agree its a little expensive as I got it for $1.30 when I was visiting abroad but again many things are inexpensive abroad.

I purchased this from an Islamic bookstore for $20AUD. Because this is a specialist text Amazon.com is charging you for the distribution charges of a rare publisher. This is quite a popular text, it should be easy to look up an Islamic bookstore in the phone directory and buy it.

Due respect to the author who wrote about very important subject. However, I disagree with his statement in Islamic Equity Fund chapter: "Moreover, even though according to the principles of Islamic jurisprudence, borrowing on interest is a grave and sinful act, for which the borrower is responsible in the Hereafter; but, this sinful act does not render the whole business of the borrower as harâm or impermissible." This is not acceptable. If shareholders work in Halal business, there is no way that they should even think about haram finance. Holy Quran categorically stated, that it is not permissible. This statement is very dangerous because it is not suitable for the true Muslims and lead to hypocrisy. It is better to refuse and sustain from business than finance it through the source of riba.

This book resonates the knowledge of mufti saab. Everything has been clearly elaborated. Readers will not feel difficult to understand the content. MUST READ
