Living On The Edge

Not a Fan
I AM A FAN OF SAM CHILDERS and the work he is doing in Africa. I purchased and read his first book "Another Man's War," which was excellent. I even purchased a copy of his movie that was based on the book, so when I heard he had released a new book called "Living on the Edge," I was very eager to read it. However, Living on the Edge was a disappointment. Sam seemed to be angry throughout the book. He was angry that he never received payment for the movie that he sold rights to; angry at people who had promised big donations, but never followed through on payment; and angry at people who aren't doing enough to help the children in Africa. His anger and disappointment are understandable, but I don't think anger is a way to make people want to help. I was hoping to read more about what has been happening in Africa since his first book. Although he did give some updates, the overriding theme throughout his book was his anger. I still believe the work he is doing is incredible and I didn't mind buying the book since it supports his ministry.

Very real
I have heard MGP speak before... And our family has a close friend that recently went over to Africa to see and help with what MGP is doing there...and the report we got back confirms that MGP really is doing what he says he is. This story is true, and very real. Too many Christian books gloss over the harsh realities of life... we live in a messy, broken world and often we ourselves are messy, broken people. This is a great story of God's redemption and power at work. When He calls us to the impossible and we determine to set our ways in obedience to His call... the most amazing things happen. Read this, and be challenged...what is God speaking to YOUR heart?

A book about a Christian man who has a heart to help the children of Africa
I saw Machine Gun Preacher, the movie starring Gerrard Butler that was based on this book. My husband ordered the book and we spent several quiet evenings together with me reading it aloud to him. I'm thoroughly amazed at this man's tenacity and love for the children of Africa.

A Wonderful book from a Wonderful servant.
Sam, your work never ceases to amaze me. God allowed you to go through the rough side of life to prepare you for an extraordinary mission. Without it, you wouldn't be able to do what you do. One of those rescued children, if not many, has an important role for Christ's return. Thank you for representing what a true Christian should be.

Raw and inspiring
Sam Childers lays it all on the line. Truthful, disturbing, courageous. From sinner to savior of the orphans of East Africa.

Great book!
I read the book some time ago and it is almost as good as the 1st one. Sam Childers gives some information he couldn't give in his first book, and also gives important updates on his work in Africa.I recommend it to everybody!

Simply amazing what one committed person is capable of accomplishing
Author's transparent reflections of his life and faith which keep him totally committed to continue helping the orphaned, displaced people of Southern Sudan. Simply amazing what one committed person is capable of accomplishing, which he claims"with God's help". In my eyes he is a true hero.
