They are approx 5.5 inches they fit the handle of the crutches I have Cooper given by hospital it that’s any help

Q: Are these grips machine washable please?

I think they could be washable, although I haven't washed mine since new, many months ago.

These handles are not designated as left or right handed. When fitted the underneath wrap overs both finished up pointing in the same direction. I have been wearing mine for some months now and they are very comfortable and do not hurt your hands when using the crutches. I hope this helps you
