Shappell Heavy Duty Hitch

I got this hitch for my boyfriends Jet Sled. It installs easily and can also be removed easily for quick easy storage and transportation in the car. It attaches right to our four wheeler and pulls the sled with ease. We got a lot of compliments and questions about the ease of this hitch. Perfect for ice fishing and other winter sports.

Solid construction. Seems sturdy enough. All hardware included (you might want to add a washer to the outside of the sled). But they need to use a bearing instead of a washer for the only part that turns. $5 fix

Works perfect with my side by side. I also purchased the extra large Shappell JSX Jet Sled. First use last weekend and pulled it through groomed and fresh snow to my cabin in the Uinta mountains. I had the sled completely filled with storage bins and a suitcase. For a cover, I did not buy the expensive Shappell cover. I ordered the Pelican Sled Travel cover 75/82". Fits perfect. Be sure you have a 3 way hitch. I ordered the Toptow 3 in 1 ATV hitch.

This is an economical hitch setup and easy to use. However, it has a poor, cheap design where it's allowed to rotate - no true bearing, just a large bolt that isn't fully tight to allow rotation. The nylock nut eventually fails and your hitch and sled goes bye-bye. I was able to find the parts (a miracle in 40" of snow!) and reassemble this with a heavy dose of threadlocking compound, relying on that to keep it in one piece while not tightening it enough to prevent the intended rotation. A few extra dollars to design this using smooth pins with a capture mechanism, like C-clips, would make it a million times better.But, it does work if you don't use it very hard. Just check all the nuts for every use.

This was the perfect adaptation for my ATV sled! Sturdy, no-slack solution for hooking my ice fishing sled to the ATV. Can also now use this combo for hauling firewood out of the woods.

I integrated this tow bar on my 2 wheeled generator with the intention of towing it with my lawn tractor. And it worked out great!

Connecting nut came off right away on 1st ice run. Also not real secure on the hooks, need to tie them off or add a”stopper” to keep them from popping off.
