Joan Rivers Great Hair Day Root Touch Up Powder – Fill-in Powder for Thicker, Fuller Looking Hair (Dark Brunette)

I have tried different products to cover gray roots between salon visits. This Joan Rivers product was advertised in a clothing catalog. I did some research and ordered from this site the "blonde" as reccomended by several reviews and YT presentations. One presenter said blonde is what 80% of people will use. The pressed powder in the pan is dark brown, however when it is tapped in with the brush it covers the root line at the part, thinning temples and crown. This blends in I have blonde highlights, medium to light brown hair and "wicked" white roots according to my stylist. Start farther back and move towards the front of the face. Short, quick taps worked best for me. It is buildable. I worked out and slept with the product in. No transfer or icky brown sweat. Washed out fully. The bristle brush does shed but I decided not to let that bother me. If you want a better brush there are expensive cosmetic ones, the art section at craft stores may have better price point. There are also angled retractable brushes for foundation. I have an extra one. I may try that with the bristles barely out of the tube.Some reviews had trouble opening the case. There is a verticle line on the cover press it down and the compact swings open. Regarding the smell. It is very light, not unpleasant or noticable after a few minutes post application. I will update as needed and ost photos when I have time.

I forgot about this and was buying the powders in the jars with the atomizers and they never worked right, didn't thicken the area and didn't really cover, plus I had to use hairspray to set it, then I saw this again and said why not, try it. I will never use anything else, the brush soreads the color, the powder thickens the hair and covers perfectly until you shampoo, no hair spray needed to set, I'm just glad this is still available because it's cut my styling time down to minutes instead of hours. I use brunette and salt and pepper, for reference

I love this powder. I do not have a thinning hair so that is not what I use it for. My hair is colored a medium brown and grows quickly. I use the power to cover the obvious roots that show in my part or hairline - until I can color it again. It doesn't take a lot of powder and does the job. I also use it in styling. I completely cover the part my hair likes to fall into. Then I create a nice "tousled" look. It's cute, easy to care for, and has no visible part. I use Blonde.

I have used this product for years and years! I LOVE it! I have not found a product I like better (and I have tried the WOW brand. You have to trust the colors you see online. I have dark brown hair and the “blonde” is the color I use🤷🏻. The blonde color is actually a medium/dark brown. I gave it 4 stars because of that and the fact that when I scratch my head in the area that I put it, it does come off on my hand. It does not run when you sweat or wipe off on pillows or wherever you put your head. But it will come off if you scratch. I have learned to just not scratch in areas that I know have the powder. I usually only have to put it where my hair is parted in the front, my temples and the back, top area at the crown. It blends beautifully. And honestly all the powders rub off on your hands. Great product though! Have used it for probably 10+ years! It is a little messy so I have it in a plastic ziplock so it doesn’t get on anything else) Lasts a long time!

I have used this product for several years. It works and is very easy to use.

I have salt and pepper hair with some thinning on the top of my head. This works perfectly to disguise that and stays put until I wash my hair. Will definitely continue ordering this.

Best root touch up I've ever used! Covers great and looks natural. Threw out all my root sprays.

I am writing this review 2 days after using the product on myself and my sister. For both of us, the product gave good coverage. Her coverage needs were greater than mine so I would recommend it for a person who needs a lot of coverage. We have black hair and the brunette gave coverage without being too dark. I took off 1 star because of the transfering. My skin is a little sensitive and I think it must have caused some itching but nothing excessive. while scratching I experienced a lot of transfer on the first day. The residue under my nails kind of had me looking like a mechanic but it was easily washed off. My real concern was, I had on a pink sweater the first day I applied and was afraid it might stain and not remove, so I tried to be careful. Because I wear a lot of light-colored tops, I fear I might ruin them with this product. On the 2nd day, the transfer was much lighter and now on the 3rd day it is very faint but still noticeable enough to accidentally transfer.The other star was taken off for the combination of cost and ease of use. First, I could not figure out how to open the compact. And the enclosed brush is fine for detail application around the hairline, but we opted for a make applicator sponge to cut down the application time and then finally the price point is high versus other products I have used in the past which truthfully did not advertise as non transferring and worked just as well.

Light blonde- I have been looking for a root blend for highlighted hair with salt and pepper regrowth (read: greys that sparkle under the harsh lighting at work). Almost all are too yellow and make me look nicotine stained, and the rest cover nothing. If you’re reading this you know what I mean. This seems to be the one I’ve been looking for! Goes on easily, blends both dark and grey roots with the light ash blonde rest, and removes the awful grey sparkle. Gives the root a lift like dry shampoo. Honestly, so far I’m really pleased.

No dislikes. Recommend for those whose hair is not as thick as it once was.

As my hairline recedes with my age, this product helps fill in the fine hair at the front that reveals my scalp. Nobody can tell that my hair is thinning. Very happy with this product.

I have been using this for years. Like some others have probably mentioned, years ago the formula was different (when Joan Rivers was still alive, RIP), it went on a lot easier and the coverage was more consistent, as in not as blotchy. Those days are over. That said, I still use it because I know what to expect. I don't want to waste $ on a new product I might not like. The colors do confound the mind - I had dark brown hair, and used the color blonde. Because it is very dark. I now have dark auburn hair, so I use the red which is an ok match. If you had light red hair, it would probably be too dark. It does last a number of days - basically till you wash your hair again. Boo hoo to me, I had ordered this a few months back but there was a snow storm - order never came, had to cancel. When I went to re-order it a couple of month later, it had gone up $5. Lucky thing it lasts for a long time. I only use it at the front.
