Fish crack
95% of my fish caught last year were using this. It's easy fishing. Toss it out, let hit the bottom, and very slowly bring it in. Get about 2-4 fish per lure, half that many if salt water bank fishing. These are great for both salt water and fresh water.

Catches fish, but bad quality of life
Make no mistake, these do catch fish. In my experience bass, channel cats, bullheads, and carp all love these. Hellgies are very common naturally occurring prey even in the dreariest of suburbia. I think these are so appealing to fish because they look a lot like hellgies in a 1:1 way when some other common baits--for example, twist-tail grubs--have an appealing action yet don't quite have an exact look alike in nature.Use this to dress an appropriate size half-head (such as Ned) or round-head jig. Cast just past a spot you suspect may hold fish, such as a point of natural cover. Allow to sink, then jig back to you at slow-to-medium speed with an occasional twitch-twitch-pause or reverse-direction twitch action to emulate a hellgie darting erratically from one piece of cover to the next. It's my experience that if you can do this 3 or 4 casts and you don't get a bite, there ain't any fish in that spot.Unfortunately these do suffer from some "quality of life" issues. They are very thin-bodied and delicate, and can sometimes be virtually destroyed even just by passing an appropriate-sized wire hook through them--not at all like some plastics which have a self-healing nature and can be used many times. It's definitely a one-and-done for bites, the first fish that taps it will tear it in half. They smell like a bag full of moistened dead birds, and the attractant scent takes the form of a sticky orange liquid that pools inside the bag. Heaven help you if you spill it somewhere, which can be quite easy during casual use because the resealable zip for the bag is pretty bad. You might want to transfer the whole darn mess into a tupperware or something else that seals tightly and easily. In other words, they work like a charm for fish, but they're not convenient to use by any stretch of the imagination and have a lot of the same drawbacks that live bait would have.

I’m shocked
Don’t fish these on a jig head or a ned rig these are the most delicate baits ever (ie 4 stars) on a jig head the bait will get torn apart by the hook and then when you hop it along the bottom. The best way to fish these is on a drop shot it keeps the lure mostly off the bottom and the action is pretty good I used them in my home lake and it got me a bite when I was struggling. I honestly don’t know if helligamites exist in the lake but it work

Nailed it!
Living down South, it's common knowledge that bass enjoy feeding on hellgramites. And this soft bait does an excellent job of mimicking them. Hook it on a ned head and the bass just can't leave them alone.

Ain't Nothing Like the Real Thing Baby....
Seems to be a quality lure, but the smallies didn't think so.

My favorite
Fish love it. Great for small mouth and sunfish, it don't last on the hook breaks apart easy. But if u want to catch fish this will catch it

Very soft buy extra
These are great. Look great, very effective in my area. They are made of a very soft rubber, softer than ordinary plastic baits, and become unusable after 2-3 fish or a few light snags. Buy extras, they don’t last long.

Good plastic especially for bass but flimsy.
Not bad! they work for bass allright, but everytime they stole the plastic. i noticed that they are flimsy too. they tear appart very easily. other then that nice bait wish they'd put a little different flakes in it. its plain black flakes which is good too but in my opinion not common in the green pumpkin color. Also they dry up after not that long if left on the rod.

As I was told, they dig it

Berkley Hellgrammites.
These are excellent baits and fish seem to love them, however, they do fall apart rather easy I find. That’s why I give a 3 star, otherwise, very good product.
