This gate is the answer if you don’t want a nasty dent left in your carpet that you would get from a metal gate. This suited us much better for our stairs as it retracts so no metal frame flapping about when open as we had with our previous metal gate. Seems quite solid so hoping it will last as for me it’s a dog gate rather than a baby gate. There are 2 reasons 4* given instead of 5* for easy to use. Firstly, we think there needs to be a clearer advisory when buying this product that if you are fixing base to wooden skirt, you absolutely need the spacers for the top that you need to purchase separately. The information is in there but we missed it so it would be great if there was an alert when buying the gate as it delayed us installing while we ordered these. Secondly when closing gate from above (ie going up the stairs) it is quite awkward looking down and getting the bottom pole into its fitting to lock closed. I’m not sure why it says it’s a one hand operation because opening and closing definitely requires 2 hands.All in all, I’m very pleased with this gate and would recommend.

Point 1: This is so hard to fit because you need an adapter that's sold separately if you intend on fitting it in a normal standard home because of the side boards other wise it does not retract properly this means that it gives more way at the top looking loosely fitted and unsafe if used on steps and retraction problems resulting in item braking eventually..Point 2: the gate is so much more bigger than a normal size meaning it's really tall in height so if you have a window at the top of your steps like a lot of homes your going to find yourself in a pickle.Point 3:- 100 % would not recomend this to someone who has a newborn toddler the carrying around age as you need two hands to unlock unless your a magician it's not happening.Point4:- yes it is revolutionary and doesnt stick out like a sore thumb and doesnt swing out but if you want to save yourself a pricey lesson only get this if you intend on putting it in doorways! I overall think it's a great product just not practical everywere and for everyone like a standard baby gate is.

There are a few issues with this. The wall fixings are a bit flimsy, screws are too thin and too short and there are only 2 fixing holes on the upper mounting point that takes most of the load. Mine came off the wall twice before I got hold of some proper screws and made extra holes to secure it properly. It just won't hold at full stretch if a toddler puts their weight on it as it comes.If you buy the spacers (which are too expensive, and should be included) to make it fit with skirting boards, the template no longer works. The upper holes will have to be drilled 1cm higher than shown on the paper drilling template.It can also be fiddly to use and the fabric often gets twisted when the gate retracts. The upper and lower winding points are independent so it can wind up unevenly.It's a nice idea, but the design needs work and the overall execution isn't great.

Returned, no template was sent, pull back on blind potentially dangerous and for a shorter adult also hard to operate silently. Could have done with away to lock material into place to prevent pull by blind which clearly are pulling on fittings after fitting and could end up making them pull out. Also have to fit very near to floor below skirting board height if you have one - no kit is provided free for this you have to buy it. To fit in door way fittings are bulky. Also sides in grey blind are bulky and black cannot miss them stand out. Only use prime if you go to Amazon carriage to return via post office with insurance as suggested by independent supplier just over £10 plus there carriage is a big loss :(

I wouldn’t recommend this gate. Not only is a drill needed for installation but I found it quite difficult to assemble and had to use the internet to get clearer instructions.Finally, anyone with an active toddler knows that this material gate will not keep a toddler out. My toddler pulls it and the retractable material flies open, almost hitting my kid. So absolutely do not recommend this gate at all.

Just the job! Bought gate of this type as daughter has one and it suited the top of my stairs better than solid gate type.Having read some of the reviews, I read the assembly instructions through before starting to fix. It was then very easy to fix using the templates to correctly locate. I found the instructions straight forward.I am using the gate to keep my large dog either upstairs or downstairs depending on where my granddaughter is. Started the dog training and she is not bothered by the gate at all.Fairly easy to operate (I have arthritis in my hands).I like the way that there are 2 sets of brackets so can relocate the gate easily. Due to the type of material, it does not stand out too much at the top of the stairs when it is closed.I would recommend this retractable gate to anyone.

We purchased this to stop the baby from entering kitchen when cooking for obvious reasons.Firstly if fitting to skirting board,spacers are needed to be purchased extra which is annoying as item isn’t cheap. Decided to carry on with install but not fit flush to the floor. Wish I hadn’t of bothered.Loud ratchet sound when closing enough to make the neighbours complain. Should come with ear defenders. Order didn’t come with template like stated and to add insult to injury, cannot be fitted to plasterboard as holes in brackets are too close together to use plasterboard fittings. Now I have holes in my wall that need to be filled and painted. I could of purchased two strips of wood and sanded, painted and glossed and used adhesive to stick to plasterboard but to be quite honest it wasn’t worth the hassle due to product not being up to standards. Disappointed at overall experience with this product.
