DK Eyewitness Travel Guide: Kenya Paperback – August 29, 2011

I bought this book before our trip to Kenya and found it very helpful. First, I like the DK Travel Books in general because of their format. I am an engineer and find their maps and organization to be easy to use, while conveying a huge amount of information. This Kenya book did not disappoint me. If like me, you plan your travels exhaustingly, this is the book for you. It covers in detail the areas where the majority of safaris travel, and also many less traveled areas. Its lodging section is very good and it also has many tips on traveling in Kenya in general.The one area I found lacking was that it should perhaps have more detailed information on safari travel in general, since this is the reason that most people travel to Kenya. Safari travel is exhausting, dirty business and travel books should not gloss over this. (Don't get me wrong, a safari to Kenya is an incredible experience - I just would like more warning about the conditions.)However, overall a great book and one I would highly recommend.

Spent 1 month trvelling through Kenya and the book was valuable to get the best satisfaction from the visit. I left the book in a cafe in Mombassa and had to back-track to retrieve it. The cafe proprietors we so kind!I have lived 20 years in Africa and wanted to take my new wife to see the true wonders of the east African game parks, we had a brilliant holiday.

Overall this is a really good guide to Kenya. If you are in Kenya to see the animals this has lots and lots of pictures. It is also quite compact so it is relatively easy to carry with you. It also has some good advice on things to see in Nairobi. I am interested in textiles and used the guide to find the street that contained lots of textile stores. The only aspect lacking in the book is that it does not contain much information about transportation within Kenya. I was on a tour so transportation was provided but if you are touring on your own you would need another source to line up transportation.

It's a great travel book to prepare one for a trip to Kenya. It's very well organized, & I really appreciated all the good small maps included in its pages. Also, the explanation for the various geographical areas within Kenya, & its WONDERFUL animal, bird, & reptile section - a great help to prepare me for identifying various wildlife I might possibly see on my upcoming safari.

Simply put, this is the most comprehensive, appealing, and well-designed travel book i have ever read. I enjoyed flipping through each and every page. You will find information, illustrations, maps, tips, and everything you can think of when travelling. Going to Kenya or any other place sometime soon - pick your eyewitness travel guide copy

I bought this for a friend who's going on safari. She's thrilled with it and says it is the perfect travel book for her trip.

Another disappointing Kenya travel guide.As one who travels to Kenya on business every year, I was hoping to see reviews of the many good, reasonably priced hotels and restaurants which have begun operations since the 2007 violence. An online search will get you more current information regarding good lodging options for the business traveller. I can also attest that the price ranges, especially for the lower priced facilities, should be taken with a grain of salt.This guide is more suited to an armchair traveller or a one time escorted tourist with deep pockets.The photos and encyclopedic nature, wildlife, and geography information are nice, and the book would make a nice remembrance of one's time in Kenya.I need something which is more "nuts & bolts" with up-to-date transport, food & lodging information - not a textbook for an academic course with a lot of generic text which seldom changes.

This Book Includes A Lot Of Good Information It Is Not Heavy To Carry. Covers Geography, Culture And Carnivores,Etc. Will Bring Along as reference On safari.
