Still fluttering in the sun. I bought to replace one that had been out on my deck for several years, but was damaged when I moved. These must be placed in full sunlight and must be level to revolve properly. As I live where there are strong winds which interfere with the rotation, I ended up putting it in a protected area out if the wind. It is near my kitchen window and only gets morning sun. It amuses me every morning when I fix breakfast and see it fluttering in the sunlight. As long as it is placed in direct sun and kept level it will last a long time. This one is going strong for 16 months. I attached mine to top of a wine bottle so it can be moved to picnic table or wherever the sun shines. I would not recommend to cat owners. I think cats would chase and catch it.

This is so much fun. I selected the butterfly design and it works perfectly in the bright sun on my container-plant filled terrace. My cat is so curious because the movement is so life-like! As an item it is hugely overpriced, make no mistake. The plastic parts are cheap and we'll have to wait an see how long it lasts, but - out of the box, it's GREAT!

Very realistic. The post and solar panel seen pretty sturdy, and the butterfly is realistic. Works well. My complaint is that replacement butterflies & wires are unobtainable- and that is what breaks easily; another flaw is that the pole should be taller, so the butterfly can hover over small flowers and not get caught up in them. The color of the insect does bleach out eventually from the sun, and I have had a couple of wires break- from deer nipping them or the wind I do not know.From a distance this is very realistic, and in my front yard flower garden they are eye-catching. Have had several compliments from neighbors.

I bought this to replace one that I had for about 2-3 years and suddenly stopped working. I did some comparison shopping before I bought it and found several people were not happy with it because some just wouldn't work at all.I was a bit leery of buying this but, for the price, I thought I'd take a chance. I wanted the replacement because my granddaughter and other neighbor kids loved to watch it.Anyhow, the one I got works but sporadically. Mostly it flutters but sometimes it just won't move even in bright direct sunlight.I don't see why it's not as good as my first one as I believe it's the same exact thing. I'm guessing the manufacturer is trying to save some money and brought the quality down.For the money, I guess it's worth it as long as it does work more than not.

I don't review things very often, but I felt I should warn others that the solar butterfly, though entertaining, has a very short life expectancy. We purchased two of them about three months ago. We put one in the garden and enjoyed it for about three weeks, then the butterfly broke off -- the wire broke off at the connection point to the butterfly, so it couldn't be reconnected.We had bought the second one as a future gift and debated returning it but thought that maybe our experience with the first one was just a fluke. About three weeks ago, we had some friends over, so we put out the second one. It broke yesterday, the wire again broke but this time about halfway down the wire.I logged on to Amazon in an attempt to return them as defective, but we are outside the return window and no ability to contact the outside seller independently (disappointing in itself). Let our lost $20.00 be the price of others learning that these solar butterflies have what appears to be a fatal flaw: the short life, through either fatigue or flaw, of the thin wire used.

My intended use for this product was to serve as a cat toy. My cat absolutely loves it! He will not pay with regular cat toys, only with this one. He chases it, and has managed to smack pretty hard and it's still going. For the price and the amount of activity I'm able to get out of my cat with it. the price is more than reasonable. I don't really keep it near a well lit window so I've only observed it react to direct sunlight a couple of time and it definitely flutters without having to be on battery usage. It is a little louder (noiser) than a previous one when using it based on the battery and not the solar power but I still love it. I definitely recommend it as a cat toy.

I Bought one of these butterflies several years ago to entertain my mom as she sat on the patio and she loved it. When I saw it got it again for my own patio, now my granddaughters rush out it watch it fly around the flowers. It just adds a little cheery feeling to my whole patio.

My mom gifted me one of these and it's still out in my garden fluttering up a storm after a months use...SO i bought myself another one. It arrived but the butterfly portion of the contraption wasnt included in the box. I returned it w/out issue for a replacement. THAT one came complete but doesnt work. i think it spun around for 5 min then stopped. i checked it out to make sure it was still all attached proper but it still wont spin in full sun. i'm not going to hassle with another return. Sucking it up to a 8 $ loss. Oh well. sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. this is a loss.
