I seem to have an "alternative ice problem" having bought whiskey stones, tovolo king cubes, and now these (over the course of 2 years).I find the whiskey stones to be quite pretty... but pretty useless at chilling a drink. I drink scotch neat frequently, and would rather not have square rocks tumbling towards my nose.The king cubes have a slow melt, but the shape isn't really a "cube" at all. They've impressed thus far, but it was time to up my game.I'm pretty excited about these spheres! Not only do you have a slow melt, but they freeze to look like quartz spheres. The only drawback to the spheres is that you can't crank them out as fast since you only get 2 spheres, and any more would be difficult to find space for in my freezer. So, I can only get about 4 per day if I switch them out twice.My plan (besides refraining from using them until I have a stockpile and some guests), is to make that great first impression with these babies, then switch to the king cubes. At that point, people will be more shocked at the diversity than recognizing the less than optimal "cube" shape.

I went to a bar in Philadelphia called the Franklin and Mortgage Company and in some of their drinks they had an ice ball called a "rock." Of course, at this aforementioned drinking establishment, the "rocks" where made by hand. Of course I don't have the time or patience to sculpt them myself, so I ordered six of these and I am glad I did. They are a great conversation piece and do the job excellently. The size is perfect for most glasses I use these with. You can also tell that the construction of these Plastic molds are of high quality. I would definitely recommend these to any Whisky, cocktail, or even those who just want it for soda's and water.

Bought this as a gift for a friend, and it worked very well. You fill up the rubber mold with water, leave it over night, and then just peel it off to give yourself a large ice ball. I was able to refill my glass 4 times over the course of an hour or so and it seemed to work just fine.Highly recommend. The only bad thing I can say is that my ice ball cracked in half around my 3rd glass. Didn't bother me though.

I had heard of the ice ball before, but not until I went to a Macallan tasting had they so peaked my interest. They demonstrated their ice baller. Magnificent. I wanted one very badly. But real life has a way of getting between you and your desires, and at well over 7 or 800 dollars I need to get into a higher tax bracket to justify such a decadent purchase. I knew there must be alternatives. There are! Granted, the filling takes some trial and error. Granted, I still haven't been able to make a ball without the ring of Saturn. Granted, it's not perfectly round (there is a slight flat bit on the bottom so it doesn't roll around your freezer (and granted because of that it melts slightly faster than a perfect orb)). But when you're paying less than 30 bucks for an okay ice ball and the "perfect" alternative is 650 English Pounds (much more in good ol' American buckaroos), you're doing alright. Maybe when Hollywood buys my screenplay about kids mucking around in a haunted house and its inevitable sequels I'll trade up, but until then this is the everyman's ice ball.

LOVE these molds! They are perfect for my short highball glasses. You have to make sure to leave room for expansion or they will leak everywhere. I also found that if you fill them with just cold water that the balls will crack in half readily when liquid is introduced, so I started putting a regular ice cube inside the mold before filling with water. The resulting ice ball freezes faster that way and is more structurally sound.

I bought two packs for gift. They were very well received. Some may think they are just for the whiskey lover and while they are good for that, they are good for just about any drink you want to keep cold. They do melt but it takes them quite a while.

I bought The Original Whiskey Ball off of Amazon because I really enjoy bourbon but it would get watered down too quickly with regular ice cubes.When I received the items, I was somewhat surprised as there was no Whiskey Ball packaging included. The two molds were wrapped in a bubble-wrap type substance within the Amazon box. There were no care instructions or anything I would expect from a new (not used) item. One other criticism I have is that water expands when frozen, so I don't advise filling the whiskey ball all the way to the top. What would have been useful and cool would be to include a recommended fill-line on the molds so I don't have to keep tinkering with the correct amount of water. Obviously, this isn't a huge deal, but would be a nice-to-have.In terms of usage, I froze my first whiskey ball today and was pleasantly surprised how easy it was (sans fill-line mentioned above). The mold came off the frozen ice very easy but I did have overflowing (have I beaten the dead horse enough?). The ice was cracked, but I look forward to experimenting with different techniques in the future (boiling the water first, distilled water, etc.).Overall, I would rate this as a decent start if you are looking for a whiskey ball. If you are serious about your bourbon, the search for the perfect ice cube continues.Update: One way I've found to get rid of the cracks is to freeze solid... then take the mold out for about 30 mins to an hour and let the top layer melt, then refreeze. This fills in the cracks.
