Awesome!
I bought this charger to keep my iPhone topped off during camping trips. It does exactly what you want it to do, and performs quite nicely! I tested it out in the woods, out of direct sunlight, and was able to get a full charge of my iPhone 4 each day (I literally ran the phone dead each day using the GPS). I'm certain I could get more juice out of it if I kept it in direct sunlight all day long. The only thing I would (and likely will) change is that while charging the interior of the case is exposed. Laying it out on a rock to bask in the sun caused a few scuffs on the internal battery. I'm considering adding a layer of cloth inside, so the battery and connectors are always protected. The battery is removable, and slips easily into a shirt pocket. This is an awesome feature, as it can be used as a battery booster for your phone. I won't have to use my phone sparingly at the zoo/theme parks anymore, as I'll have another charge and a half waiting in my pocket.Perfect for keeping a phone charged up each day; for a notebook/tablet, I'd go bigger.

This is pretty awesome..only 2 tweaks I would make.
I got this for a trip, only used the battery as a standalone since I would be on subways and buses no place to charge solar. It is awesome, size is not too big, charges pretty fast in full sun. Easy to use, will use it for power outages to keep my cell phone charged. Will charge a Samsung Note II about 2 times on full charge and Note II at 20%.Like the design and functionality and would and have recommended it to others. Simple and easy to use...but note you need to plug your phone into the battery to charge and use the solar panel to charge the battery. This can happen at the same time another nice thing.2 tweaks 1st one is just me and a few others would like to see a bigger battery with it. I know solar panel size etc plays a role but would be nice if it could be bummed up. The second is the reverse polarity issue. That is if you leave the battery plugged into the solar panels the battery seems to drain some when the sun doesn't shine. So unplug the battery after it is fully charged to fix this issue.Test I did to see the reverse polarity.I had noticed the battery charge to 4 lights in sun. Next day was cloudy and the panels were in my window all the time for 3 days. The light started showing only 3 lights then. I thought hmm reverse polarity or was it just that the battery had just been on the edge of 4/3 and normal loss caused it to be 3 now. I charged the battery to solid 4 and just let the battery sit for 9 days...still 4 lights. Plugged in solar panels again...next day only 3 lights. Went on trip fully charged..6 days it stayed on 4 lights. Charged phone 2 lights. USB charged the battery to 4 lights again. 16 days later still on 4 lights! Charged my phone and battery showed 3 lights. Hooked up battery to solar panels and put in full sun...4 lights again. This time I unplugged the battery from the solar panels and it stayed at 4 lights for 9 days and counting! No I did not use meters and only used the status lights of the battery(which they say isn't 100 % accurate for charge status). I tried contacting the company and just asked if you needed to unplug or not and never heard a thing from them. So just put this for heads up if you think you are crazy that the battery is losing charge or something. Try unplugging from solar panels once it is charged and not if full sun. Still really like this product.

Great mini renewable energy source
I could, theoretically, never plug my phone into the wall again. The kit comes with adapters to plug into many mobile devices, including most current cell phone plugs for cell phones that charge off of USB. The solar panels charge a battery, which in turn, you can charge or run anything that is powered through USB. The outer shell is very durable, wont tear, and the solar panels are very durable. In full sunlight, the battery fully charges in a few hours. A fully charged battery will fully recharge my samsung galaxy precedent one time and still have some juice left. You can even have the battery plugged into the solar panels charging while the battery is charging your device. The kit totally lives up to all its claims as advertised. Very impressed. Would be great if you use the gps on your phone for camping and hiking. Would make an excellent gift for an outdoors person or someone who is into gadgets.

Initial impression versus 2 year impression.
Loved that this came with TWO solar chargers. They worked great while on our camping trip.2 year update: Well they don't work very well anymore already. Hardly charge the batteries they came with and don't do anything when plugged directly into my cellphone. We take care of our stuff and haven't had a ton of opportunities to use them, so the fact that they're dead weight already is irritating. Now we have to purchase something else instead. The batteries still charge out of a wall socket though, just the solar chargers are junk.

Not so Good
Maybe it's winter but using solar doesn't charge the battery. Used my laptop USB to fully charge. But when used the power pack to charge my iphone, it could only charge 30% before it ran out of juice.

Battery pack on full charge charged my phone once and ...
Battery pack on full charge charged my phone once and not to 100%. Had to recharge battery pack with an AC phone charger. Charged it once in the sun and it go very hot.

Impressive.
This review is a bit premature, since I've only had it a couple of weeks just messing around with it. I'll amend the review as necessary. What I was looking for was a solar charger that was thoughtfully designed and well manufactured that would fit in my backpack, and the Amp was made just this way. It's a bit larger than a CD case when zipped together. The protective covering over the panels will (in my mind) provide better than adequate protection in my backpack, including the occasional drop to the ground. The zipper and fabric construction are all first-rate. The interior zippered pocket holds small items well and the unit folds easily. The Amp has two small fabric loops inside on both ends, making attachment to my backpack easily do-able with a couple of small carabiners, or maybe a couple of pieces of Velcro. The battery, wiring and internals all seem to be made of quality materials. More later...
