Did any of you buy the more expensive model like this and/or know the difference? Or did you choose this one over the other because of price?

Quick tip: The ferro rod is more than likely glued in to the plastic holder. Remove it by using a blow dryer to heat up the plastic ferro rod holder. Then, use a pair of adjustable pliers (aka Vice Grips) to remove the old, used ferro rod (with the jaws wrapped in electric tape to prevent the sharp metal jaws of the pliers from leaving marks on the plastic ferro rod holder). Finally, use one of the following options with some adhesive such as "JB Weld Super Weld" glue/adhesive or a 2 part epoxy to hold it in place (like JB Weld 2 part putty epoxy): Option 1: Search for "AliExpress" on your favorite search engine. You can order ferro rods in almost any diameter and length from there. Shipping takes a while, but the selection/price is unbeatable. Option 2: Search Amazon for the following brands of ferro rods: "Bayite" or "EricX Light". I've purchased a few different ferro rod sizes from these companies and they are good quality with a predrilled lanyard hole on the end of the rods. You could replace the old ferro rod with one of these and run a steel pin into the side of tbe plastic ferro rod holder to help hold it in place. Good luck and have fun. Dose the Metal from the blade enter the handle

Yes! It is a full tang blade which means it goes all the way through to the bottom of the handle

Bradley, I can't find any markings on the knife to identify country of origin, and I no-longer have the packaging. I even looked on the company's web site and can't find out where it's manufactured. Although the company is in NY, many just bring these in from good ol' China. I've found that if a product is made right here in the USA the company typically makes it well known with it's advertising and markings on the product to highlight that fact. My suspicion is that's it's not made in the USA. As for the knife itself - I can tell you that I paid less than half of what it's listed here for, and I wouldn't buy another even at that discounted price. (see my review ) For the price they're asking for this knife, I would steer you toward the Gerber Prodigy instead. I own one (as well as it's big brother the LMF for twenty bucks more) and it's a great knife from a "name brand", tough as nails, and is hard to beat at this price point. Check them out here on Amazon. The only thing this "Stat-Gear" knife has over the Gerber Prodigy is the "idea" of the Fire starter in the sheath- however it's so very poorly executed on the Stat-Gear as to be worthless. Bottom line- it (the Stat-Gear) isn't as good as it pretends to be, and better knives are out there for the same price.
