The Giver - Teacher Guide by Novel Units

Although the target age for this guide is around grades 6-8, I found it easily adaptable to high school. I teach second language students and they enjoyed the thought-provoking questions and fun activities. If you are teaching this novel, I highly recommend this teacher's guide.

After ordering one teacher's guide, I ordered one for every novel I planned to use for the school year. The guide was packed with excellent information and activities that saved me so much time in preparing my units! I liked the way the guide was organized.

I was thoroughly disappointed when I received this item today. After teaching The Giver for several years, I wanted to find a resource that would complement the material I have been using. Instead, this book has 7 - 8 discussion questions for every few chapters, a list of vocabulary terms--not defined--for every few chapters, and a few graphic organizers. Buyer beware.

I was extremely disappointed in this resource. It is basically a list of vocabulary terms (abbreviated selection), and questions from each section. There are a few very common graphic organizers at the end, and an inadequate test. Not useful at all for my ninth grade class.

This book was very helpful when it came to preparing my lessons and activities for my students. I will be using this again next year.

This is my first year teaching English after 17 years of American History. I am looking forward to the change and am certain this will be a useful resource.

This guide contains lots of of discussion questions for the book. It is a good resource to use with the story as the story can be difficult for students to understand.

Add additional assignments for today's standards. Fun and interesting information to use.
