Great little lamp
This is a pretty sturdy little lamp. The plastic shell is of good quality, seems fairly strong. The lamp has a decent weight to it, not flimsy feeling, but not real heavy either. The light thrown out is OK, you can see to walk with it, and if you have a power outage and are sitting at a table about the size of a card table, one should light it enough for you to sit around, play cards and see OK. If you are camping and sitting at a picnic table with lots of family members, I might suggest two or three would be needed. For a medium sized tent, this should light it up enough for you to see well enough to change clothes, lay out bedding etc. The light put out is not super bright but has enough 360 degree light to see around decently in about a 8'-10' diameter area. The little handles are nice, can easily carry it that way, or hang on a peg or hook. As long as it is fairly close, I find it easy to read by this light. I don't know how long the batteries might last, as I just use it in my bedroom when I want a quick look at something in the dark, ie like what the cat might be doing across the room, or to read the remote to adjust the air conditioner etc. I would suggest not looking directly at the light, because at the source it is very bright...like staring into a powerful flashlight, only bigger. Takes 3 AA batteries.

This little lantern puts out a lot of light that you can adjust but how high you pull the top up on the lantern.
My husband is a scoutmaster and has a supply of regular and even LED flashlights that he uses when the boys go camping. He also has a couple of large butane camp lanterns that they have used when they are sitting around outside at night and don’t have a campfire going. He has used just a flashlight inside of his tent at night but that gives very limited lighting, even if he props it up so it shines up to the top of the tent. I have looked at a variety of styles of small, battery operated camp lanterns and that is when I discovered the lanterns that are expandable, so they turn off when they are closed all of the way and turn on when you start pulling the top up. He loves that he can control how much light it puts out by how high he expands the lantern. This little lantern puts out a lot of light. The two bale handles flip down to fit along the side of the lantern when it is closed but you can flip them up and use them for carry handles. There are several things that impress us about this lamp, the amount of light it puts out, the ease of use and the ability to keep the LED bulbs safe when the lantern is all closed up. It makes it easy to pack this lantern up with all of the rest of the gear.

nice little lantern.
we used to have a coleman rechargable lantern that took florescent tube lights... this puts out about as much light as that one did. don't know yet how long the batteries will last as we just used it for 2 evenings while camping. As some have said.... if you're looking to light up a campsite this isn't the light for you, but if you need light in your tent it's great. we have a 10x20 tent and it's enough light to work by but not enough to wake up most sleepers and the fact you can open only slightly helps if you're wanting even less light (like checking on kids or just making sure your pjs aren't backwards before you put them on ;) . I would imagine that if we switched to rechargeable batteries that they will not last as long as a regular set, but that should be expected with anything. overall we're pleased. there seems to be several different brands of the exact same light... we opted for blitzu because it had a lifetime warranty. also if you're accustomed to the older style and size of lantern, these are quite small which is great for packing. about as tall as a can of pop when collapsed but of course a little larger in diameter.

... the reviews for this light and other lights just like it. I bought two of them
Okay so I read a lot of the reviews for this light and other lights just like it. I bought two of them. I admit it is a really neat light and has a very cool design. I am happy I bought them and for the price I really like them. What you have not read about these lights yet are: They are in fact very bright and blinding when you look at them close up, however, they do not give off a lot of full light. They are also very small, just a little bigger than a 12oz beer. I took them both camping and used one in my tent and one on a table. The one light on the table provided enough light to do whatever I needed on the table and was a good light for that area and was very bright. in otherwise total darkness. The light provided good general light for the area. The light does not do a good job lighting up large areas more than ten to fifteen feet out and it is very dull light after about five feet. The second light worked very well inside of my tent, 10x8x6', and provided enough light for the inside of the tent to see what I was doing. The lantern does not provide light directly underneath of it though and there was a lot of darkness in the tent, though it was plenty of light for inside of a tent. Again, it was a good light and very bright for a smaller area. I would recommend this light to anyone with the expectation of using this lantern in smaller areas, like a bedroom, tent, camping table, small work area outside, etc. I hope this is a more accurate review than others you have read. I also recommend buying two or more if you purchase this light so you can use them in tandem.David R.Peoria, AZ

My favorite lantern
This tops the list of the three essentials needed, in my opinion for camping. This lantern was a great buy, in fact there were two that I purchased on a lightning deal. There are other similar ones on the market, that I do own, but I found this one to be better. First of all, it has magnets on the bottom of it, which can be convenient when looking under the hood of the car or attaching to a metal object in the event of a power outage. It also has 2 plastic hooks, which kind of disappointed me because the theory is great, but they are made of a flimsy plastic. That should be addressed. Even with its flaws, this is still an excellent lantern to own and I would advise keeping them around. They can hang from the top of a tent, sit on a table, or be hand held to take on a dog walk at night.
