The Ultimate Drumset Reading Anthology: For the Working Drummer, Book & Online Audio Paperback – October 1, 1998

I've used this book in my teaching studio constantly for years. The contents are a diverse assortment of drum charts of pretty common tunes, like Sammy Nestico's "Basie Straight Ahead." My high school and advanced middle school students greatly benefit from working through this fine book. Steve Houghton has done a masterful job of assembling an array of drum charts that would benefit anyone from an advanced middle-schooler to college level student, or a working drummer wanting to improve his/her reading. Highly recommended!

This is a must for any developing drummer, or even experienced drummers. Solid for learning how to setup the band rhythmically, how to fit within the pocket, and the play-along cd is great!

Steve Houghton's books have always been very practical and informative. This one is no exception!

The book included in this package is filled with useful information regarding playing in a variety of groups. It has realistic charts (like stuff I've seen on gigs) ranging from chicken scratch on a napkin to more fully actualized big band charts.However, the reason I am giving this a 3-star rating is because of the highly disappointing cd. The CD is a drummer and a pianist. I don't need to hear another drummer playing on something like this. I can listen to albums if I want to hear a drummer. At least the package should include versions with and without drums (which would require a larger ensemble...) The point of play alongs is to play along with the band! Not play along with another drummer!

Purchased this book cause want to have more information about different kinds of drum charts. Useful material for those who works in bands where required sight-reading.
