Those of us who must take a plane to get to a great fishing spot can be thankful for a well-made and versatile travel rod. This one did not disappoint on a recent trip to Florida. Paired it with a Daiwa BG 3000, I caught a nice 3' blacktip shark, and the rod performed beautifully. The manufacturer provides a nice guarantee and extras to make sure you don't go home disappointed.

I purchased this setup for my trip to Florida. When it arrived, everything looked great. I took the reels to a shop to have lines put on them. Then added a pencil pocket bag to the handle for a small set of fishing gear. I brought it on the plane as a carry on, went through security without any problems. I ended up using it every day while I was on vacation. It was so easy to walk around and setup quickly, instead of carrying around a long fishing rod. I ended up winning a fishing contest with it. It is now my new travel fishing set. Great materials and concept idea.

The lower three pieces could’ve used more eyes

I had fished for years with a vintage 4-piece fiberglass rod with a sliding reel mount so that it could be used for both fly-fishing and spin fishing. Really, it functioned as a slow fly rod that could be used in a pinch with a spinning rod. Recently, when we were headed for a week in the Boundary Waters, I wanted to get a second packable rod for my kids to use. I ordered the X5 with the reels because I liked the idea of the integrated reel protection. I have really enjoyed this rod!I have been super impressed with the design and performance of the rod. As a spinning rod, it casts better than my regular mid-weight rod. When I put on the lighter-duty fly tip and a 6-weight line, at first I didn't think it was going to be workable--the rod is shorter than I am used to in a 6-weight and the action is very fast. Once I got used to it, though, I really liked it. It can really launch a big streamer. The shorter length makes it feasible for tiny streams, though the heavier action means that delicate presentation and precise location are hard.One thing worth mentioning is that the packed size of the rig is even smaller than I pictured. It fits easily in a day pack, let alone a backpacking pack. I'm looking forward to taking it all over.(NB Mine shipped with a minor defect in the rod case--a sewing glitch in one of the reel pockets. Andy provided stellar support and authentic enthusiasm for the product and its use.)

I really liked this fishing rod. The fact that I can break it down and take it anywhere is great. It casts and reels nicely and was a really versatile fishing rod.Unfortunately the rod is less than 1 year old and yesterday one of the pieces cracked while casting. I heard a noise when I cast but had no idea what it was at the time. A few minutes later when I went to reel in the rod folded over about mid way through one of the sections. As you can see in the product pictures the rod comes in 5 pieces and comes with 3 different tips but unfortunately the piece that cracked was the one below the tip as you can see in the picture I uploaded.I am hoping I will be able to get some kind of replacement part so that I can keep using it because I really enjoyed using it.

I travel from Boston to Seattle regularly for work. As an avid angler, it is outright shameful to find yourself in one of the most pristine fishing locations 4-6 times a year without a rod. The problem, of course, has always been traveling with all that extra equipment.If this were a vacation I'd have no trouble traveling with the extra baggage, but when you're traveling for work, on an expense account, it turns out fishing equipment doesn't qualify as "necessary equipment" (side note, we should be advocating for fishing at every major accounting school so we can eventually correct this horrific notion).After reading about the backstory of the X5's creator, and his similar frustration trying to find a "travel" rod that could actually meet Carry-On size restriction, I decided I would give it a try myself. And boy did this not disappoint! The rod not only fit into my carry-on but left plenty of room for reels, tackle, flies, etc.More importantly, the rod performs wonderfully. I've used it for both spinning and fly fishing and as you might expect, having a pretty strong backbone, it's sweet spot is spinning. That said, it made an excellent fly rod as well. Paired with a 6wt, I was able to effortlessly lay dry flies with on a stream as well as haul streamers with ease.My only issue was the lack of documentation. A one-sheeter describing each tip and how/when to use them would have been really helpful. I was able to find everything online but I shouldn't have had to search for it.

This is a great travel rod ( lose the camo ( not legal in all destinations ) on the case and change the shape ( less gun like then it would be a great carry on )). But what really is fantastic is the customer service from this company. I broke one section while on a trip, sent an email late in the evening and got a reply first thing in the morning asking for legitimate info that I had not included. Replied that evening, and next morning had the reply from the vendor stating they stood by their warranty and a Notice/Tracking number from the shipping company. The replies from Rigged and Ready were friendly, honest and pleasant. This is customer service at it's best.

Cheep floppy rod. Not what I was expecting. This could have been done some much better. So disappointed.

I purchased the X5 Adventure and the RR3000 reel.Coming from 2 piece rods I was a little bit sceptical but I have to say this thing is amazing! I cannot recommend it enough.Not only does it feel solid, it honestly compares to traditional 2 piece rods so little to no compromise.I have now used this is rivers and the sea and it performs great.This feels more unbreakable than my 2 piece rods, but this one packs down into a very small tube so perfect for travel.After the order I was interested in a few additional items and Andy (Riggy) has also provided me with great support and I cant thank him enough. In this day and age its amazing to find a company with values like this.If anyone reading this is questioning whether to purchase, take it from me you will not be disappointed.One happy customer,Jamie
