High Quality
I am very pleased with this timer. It is very basic in design and function. The only requirement on the part of the user is it is necessary to twist the setting knob all the way to 55 minutes and then bring it back to the desired time for setting. I highly recommend this Taylor timer. In fact, I have multiple items that I have purchased from Taylor over the years and each item has been of an outstanding reliable quality.

Very Straight forward simple timer
This is easy to use, and more than loud enough for a reasonable person with reasonable expectations. If you are in the same room or maybe a room over and there isn’t a ton of noise you should hear it. Otherwise I’d just carry take it with me to the other location. If you are setting it to less than 15 minutes I recommend bringing it to 15 than down to the low time you want to set so the spring will have enough energy.I like that it clings then shuts off. I don’t have to stop doing something else and turn off some incessant alarm. I also like that I can run it while I’m running my oven alarm for something else. If I wanted to go outside I can carry it out with me as well.

Taylor long ring stainless steel manual kitchen timer...
(Read the updates. Taylor Mechanical Timers are short lived... I have now tried two,) I have no association with the company and I am fussy about my cooking tools. I have had this Taylor timer for about a year, having received it as a gift. I had been lamenting how I could not find a stainless timer to match my stainless & black kitchen gear and boom...a Xmas gift. Having read the poor reviews, I had not ordered one. Amazon reviews have been very helpful and I use them a lot. This Taylor timer has worked flawlessly since last Christmas. I use it every day to time water for my coffee press and other stuff. It sits on my counter and has stood up to cleaning from spills. The base keeps it from sliding off real well. The ring is extra long (compared to the white Wally World generic I now use in my office) and the ring volume is good enough for this senior citizen, if you don't go too far from the kitchen. It's a timer, not a fire alarm. Anyway, maybe I got the only good one in the universe, but I will get another one quickly, if this one ever craps out.UPDATE> May 6, 2013 Timer stopped working... it sticks on 8 minutes. sorry to see it go and it lasted for about a year and a half performing well. I will try another brand, as I expect more durability from a simple product... although I did use it daily or more. I reduced the rating to 3 stars.UPDATE> Second Taylor Mechanical Timer crapped out within 60 days... I recommend going digital or stick with the Dollar Store offering. I have one of each. Re-glued the cheap mechanical... works well. Dropped one of the digitals and the screen went gray. It was used a lot for 5 bucks and the second one is still going after a year. Batteries last within reason, but I use it all the time.

Manual Timer
This is EXACTLY what I was looking for! I've gone through quite a few digital times that refuse to work even with new batteries in them. People say I can use my cell phone; call me old fashioned but I prefer not to use it for that. I use to use one years ago when my children were young (for time outs); they liked the fact that they could see the minutes count down.

Curious Mechanism Defeats the Purpose
First time I have worked with a timer that required such attention. Usually a timer may ask you to set the dial past the needed times e.g. turning the indicator to 30 mins and then bring it back to the 10 mins you want timed. This timer requires one to extend the indicator all the way to the hour mark, then turn it back to the time needed. If you wind it to 59 or 58 mins, it will tick tick its way to the 0 mark, which will trick you into thinking it's working. Nope When it gets to 0, it will simply stop and not ring. And you won't knows there is a problem until you return and see the time was reached long ago and there was no alarm. If one is super careful to begin the timing at 60 (not close but exactly on the spot) it keeps good time and rings so you know. I've learned to hang around when it's close to the end and check it's working. Not a timer to use if you want to set it and go away to do something else. Do not recommend.

Perfect kitchen clock
This works exactly as I had hoped.1. no batteries to run down2. the alarm "rings" when time is up, and then the "ringing" stops after a short time (maybe 5 seconds)Word of advice... when using - be sure to turn the timer clockwise past 55 minutes then turn counterclockwise to your desired time.
