Great mic value
Great mic for the money wish the tube wasn't soldered in place but easy fix love it.

I bought this to mod as U47
Only issue is no SOCKET for the tube. I got the mod kit from Dave at Advanced Circuits (CA). Wow what a nice mice. Be sure to tell Dave what you would be putting his 47 kit in. It makes a difference.

With a new capsule, it sounds lovely.
I purchased this mic to mod. Out of the box, it was overly bright. I replaced the capsule with a K47 style unit, replaced the stock tube with an Electro Harmonix 12AY7, replaced the output electrolytic with a 2.2 uF metal film cap, and removed the RF suppression caps from across the output transformer. I also replaced the zenners in the psu with 62 volt diodes. The stock output transformer sounds fine to me, so I will probably not bother to replace it.The mic now sounds like a million bucks. This is a great mic to mod. Unlike some stories I've read online, I found the stock tube easy enough to desolder with just a solder sucker.Down one star, because it didn't sound fantastic out of the box.

WAY better than expected.
I actually bought this for the case! I needed it for a Genesis mic. But the dang mic is pretty good! The tube is soldered in, so it was a hassle but I replaced it with an old Mullard 12AU7, which helps damp the spitty high end a bit and brings some life to the mic. This is stupid cheap, put in a decent tube ($20 for the Mullard) and you'r eon your way. A better capsule is supposed to help as well.
