Boy in the Striped Pajamas - Teacher Guide by Novel Units

This incredible movie is about two young boys growing up in Germany during Hitler's time. One is in an internment camp because he is Jewish, while the other little boy, on the other side of the camp's barbed wire fencing, is the son of the director of the internment camp. They become very good friends and will do anything for each other. I won't go any further. All I have to say is that EVERY human being, from Age 1 to 111 should see this movie. ESPECIALLY THE YOUNG PEOPLE. The social injustice, civil rights violation, and just plain disgust over what happened in Germany during Hitler's reign is very, very important to young children in light of the hatred that they are faced with on a day-to-day basis --- sometimes by their own friends and/or parents, and you aren't even aware of it.

"The Boy in the Striped Pajamas" is such an excellent book to read with junior high aged kids, and this teacher's guide provides so many great discussion questions, project ideas, and curriculum suggestions. I definitely recommend it. It was a huge help to me this summer, as I taught a unit on this book and the movie (which is also superb).

This Novel Unit is fantastic. There is a wealth of ideas that encompass all areas of Language Arts. I highly recommend it. I'm using it this year with 6th graders, but it would also be suitable for 7th - 9th.

I showed the video last time. Looking forward to expanding with this teaching tool.

This guide is extremely helpful. There are lots of great follow-up questions for post-reading that really get readers thinking deeply about the themes in the novel. A+
