The Sermon on the Mount - Bible Study Book

This was a very enjoyable study-but if you don't want to invest some time in the "homework" on this, maybe it's not for you. However, we did a nice study on it, & just discussed 1-2 points vs the whole amount of homework, so I suppose you could still benefit without the time commitment of the assignments. Jen Wilkins was a great teacher on the video. She was easy to relate to & added some perspectives I hadn't thought about. I liked it & I would definitely consider another study done by her.

It arrived new and it that condition. It shipped quick the week before the church group study started. I now know that I really enjoy the way both the book is set up but moreso how Jen Wilkin writes and teaches. This book goes with her video teachings each week. In my case, our church has them. But it would be more dry and challenging without her companion videos, but could be done I suppose. The leader of our group did say if someone missed a week they can go to a website (Lifeway?) And pay per video type thing. So an option if not offered at a larger group setting. Each week (of 9 I think) consists of 5 days of your own interpretion of 1 sentence questions about the scripture, looking up definitions to help clarify thoughts, making occasional little lists, and looking up cross reference scripture. The Sermon scripture is included in the back of the book. In class there are prompts on what you did to discuss with group. I am learning sooo much about The Sermon on the Mount! Its a great study to dive deep into.

This was my Bible study class and it was very good.

This study was FANTASTIC! Jen is a phenomenal teacher. I completed this study with my church’s women’s ministry and enjoyed listening to her truths each week in the videos (sold separately)...I actually plan to purchase the audio for myself so I can listen to them whenever I need a refresher. The homework is very reasonable in length to be able to keep up with during the week and her questions are pertinent and really help to deepen your understanding of the Sermon on the Mount through personal reflection, scripture, and application to today’s world. The videos then tie in parts of the homework as she is speaking, which helps to clarify any areas I initially struggled to understand and makes note taking so much easier! I finished each week feeling refreshed with my eyes opened to opportunities for self-improvement in seeking “kingdom living” and so many *a-ha* moments! HIGHLY RECOMMEND

This was a great bible study book, and there is also a dvd that goes along with the study. I would highly recommend. It was very Indepth, and had a decent amount of homework. I felt I learned a lot and felt like this helps one to grow spiritually as well.

What a great and in-depth study by Jen Wilkin! Our bible class used it’s our small group study this fall. I’ve learned a great deal. It’s challenging for even experienced bible study students. The newer gals are a bit overwhelmed but plodding thru! The “problem” is that there is sooooooo much info in each weeks study that we cannot even come close to covering it all in our 90 minute class. Many of these lessons could easily be broken down into several weeks worth of info. Trying to discuss it all AND have time for mrs wilkin’s dvd is challenging as well. That is because she speaks at GREAT detailed length on these topics (very informative and interesting) which means her dvds run up to 38 mins in length. That’s a long video. I have found it necessary to cut off a great discussion so that we will have time for her dvd component. That’s super frustrating and disappointing. I’ve led bible study for alot of years. Handling the sheer volume of material found in each lesson and trying to balance class discussion with exceptionally long and meaty dvd’s has stretched me greatly. It’s been frustrating at times too. Check out the study and you will learn and grow! Just prepare for your mind to become jam-packed!! Happy studying!!

I was surprised that the author could write a whole study on this familiar passage. She gave great insight & more background information to flesh out the meaning of the Sermon on the Mount. My Bible study group felt this was a well written & we all enjoyed learning so much from the study.

Deep and thorough in study methods! I love Jen Wilkin Bible studies because they go beyond the fluffy stuff that so many other Christian Bible study leaders pander as real study. She uses the Inductive Bible Study method which removes the normal Bible study author's "girlfriend, let talk" fluff we find on the shelves by so many and roots the study in Scripture, true context and not feelings. No fluffy theology here.
