100% better bass than the 6.5!!!
These 7" speakers are kick ass! They are about double the impact of the 6.5" speakers I replaced. Literally 50% deeper and heavier than the 6.5" and 100% better sound. Sound quality is excellent and what I would call "rich" or "warm." I would highly recommend! This is my second purchase of this speaker set. New boat, so of course, I needed a stereo upgrade! Most boats that have stereo come with 6.5" speakers. The Alpine M700 will need a bigger hole. If you want to get the best performance from these 7 inch speakers, buy a good quality amplifier too. This speaker has really good bass response when you have a good amp. The directional tweeter makes a difference when you aim them in the direction of the listener. My original set of M700 speakers were used for over 4 years in the old boat and never had any failures. The performance was so good, I bought again for the new boat.2x M700 speakers mounted rear1x SWR-M100 subwoofer4x SPS-M600 speakers mounted front/mid1 MRV-M500 mono sub amp1 MRV-F505-V12 4-channel amp drives 6 speakers.

An Ok Boat Speaker
So, like others, I picked up these speakers after reading the few, mostly positive reviews on various sites. I compared these with the 6.5" version, the JL MX650, the Infinitys and the other popular brands of boat speakers and ultimately decided on these for a couple of reasons. They were slightly larger than the 6.5" standards, which I thought would produce more bass off my stock Sony CDX-H910UI deck. They were also reviewed as a better built speaker, and finally they were the best looking IMHO. Like I said, i got 2 sets and installed them on my 25' Premier Tri Toon. The boat came with 4 6" Kicker speakers stock, but the speakers had a bit of wear and weathering to say the least. They still sounded decent, but i thought i could get better, only spending a little over two bills. Plus, i was hoping the ascetic would be upgraded as well (which it was greatly).Install: The Premier has little mounts close to the floor for the speakers. Two in the front, two in the rear. I unscrewed the mounts, removed the old speakers and the backing. The Alpines did not fit in the stock cut-outs so i had to use the included Alpine mounting template to trace a larger hole, which i then proceeded to cut out with a jig saw type tool. You could use a dremel too i suppose. Pretty easy but tedious. I also had to redrill the screw holes to fit the Alpines configuration. The biggest problem installing was the little metal screw supports that came with the kit. One of the stock speaker wire connections did not fit the speakers either, but its very easy to splice the connections from the Alpine speaker wire to your own stock speaker wire. That way you don't have to run new wire. I had no previous speaker installing experience outside of home theater btw.So got them installed, but no longer have any backing behind the speaker so they sit open in the boat compartments/seats (like a speaker or sub box). Anyone know if this is detrimental to the speaker output or sound? It didn't seem to be.Sound: Compared to the kickers they replaced (i replaced 1 first and did a side by side sound comparison with the old kicker) they definitely had cleaner highs, but i honestly expected a little more bass from the 7" woofer. I have noticed the bass getting a little better as they get broken in. I wouldn't say the bass was less than the kickers, but probably about the same. The frequency range isn't the lowest, but i think the bass is getting much better as they break in. They are not going to make you bumpin on the water, but you will be happy with the overall sound.Looks: IMHO these are great looking speakers with the silver grill. They are clean, not obnoxious with crazy grills or colors and they don't look cheap at all. Very nice looking speakers.Overall, i would probably buy these again for my application. 4 speakers in the pontoon, running off the stock sony headunit (above). I would definitely not splurge for the JL MXs ( I would probably get JLs if i was running an amp and i wouldn't get the MX series) It's probably easier to install same size replacements, but i like the looks of these and the sound was good.

Nice speaker for the money!
I purchased a pair of these and a pair of the Apline 6.5" to replace some cheap Boss Audio that I bought 2 years ago, one of which one died. There is a world of difference in terms of sound quality and bass when installing these. I run these straight off a Kenwood KMR-700 head unit and they sound great. No need for an amp in my case and opinion. The 7" is a much better quality speaker than the 6" which seemed a bit small. These speakers take up a lot of room so definitely make sure you have the clearance. (I could only fit them in 2 of my 4 speaker locations, all of which I cut and mounted myself.) If you can fit them I wouldn't hesitate buying them. And if you are cutting a hole in a brand new boat which I did 2 years ago, do yourself a favor and don't buy the cheapos like I did the first time. As all these speakers have different cutout sizes. The hole I cut for the Boss was larger than the hole I needed for the 6.5".

Very poor wiring. But they were good when they were ...
These speakers lasted one summer in my boat. Then the wires from the magnit to the speaker cone broke. Very poor wiring. But they were good when they were working. Just cost to much not to last any longer than that.

Best marine speakers for their price!
After a year of abuse, I have to admit, they are awesome. Very good sound quality, they surprise me. Decent low end, very clear mids and highs, and they are really sensitive, so they dont need an amp at all (btw I am using a JL Audio HX280/4) and they sound too loud and pretty good! Yes I highly recommend these speakers and Yes, I will buy them again if I need to.

a disappointment
I got these speakers after doing a lot of research on marine speakers. The Alpines were rated as the best sound for the price. I installed them on Sat and took out the boat thinking these would be very loud.I was extremely disappointed. They are no better then the factory speakers I had previously. They were in-expensive and I just thought they were going to be better. This review is no reflection on the seller. They were great.I would give them a "c" grade at best!

No complaints here
Ordered four of these speakers after doing some shopping around. Wasn't sure about going with a 7" speaker since 6 1/2" or 6x9"s are pretty much the standard sizes. Very happy I gave these a chance. You wouldn't think they would put out much more then a 6 1/2" but they really do. I have all 4 of them connected to a JBL MA6004 Marine amp I purchased with the speakers. Very loud and clean sounding combination. Even in an open vehicle you get a good amount of bass. I've had people ask me what kind of sub do I have and where did I hide it. They have gotten dusty and wet a few times and seem to hold up well. I wouldn't think twice about buying them again.
