So far so good. Mounted on my bass buggy 18' pontoon
So far so good. Mounted on my bass buggy 18' pontoon. Mounted on the left pontoon aerator guard. There is some artifact from the right pontoon, but images near the bottom are clear. Easy to mount and works great.

Great View of underwater surfaces
Product is high quality as you would expect from Lowrance. Allows you to view surfaces much more visually than standard fishfinders. Simply awesome technology that you have to see with your own eyes.

Not what you see on the demo screen shots. Not worth the price. A neat gimmick for $100, but not a $300 tool.
It works ok, but I was less impressed with the images than what I saw on the demo screen shots. I was in a lake chain with a LOT of structure. The lake has a lot of structure including tree stumps, rock piles, and sea weed, ranging from 30 feet to 5 feet, and lake depths up to 70 feet. From the demo screen shots you would think you are going to see clear images of these structures. I adjusted the settings and while I could see features like stumps, downed trees in the water, and to some extent the rock piles, it is just not as clear or as easy to differentiate as what their sample screen shots show. In the 50-70 foot water you won't see anything worthwhile on the screen. I think it would be easier to see on the HDS12 perhaps, where you have more screen. That said, the image quality just isn't as great as I expected. Overall, I think it is marginally useful. For the price, I expected far more. I remember using sidescan sonar in the 90's and I thought the quality was terrible then. This has come a long way, but it is still far from perfect. If you expect to see fish or structure in deeper waters (25 feet or more), I think you will be disappointed. I went out with a guide on my boat as well, so he could help me set up my HDS the way he had his, which was much improved over some of the factory settings. He saw the Structure Scan and told me it was junk. He has 2 HDS units in his boat, a 12 and a 9, and over $100k in his boat and electronics setup. If structure scan worked, you can bet he would have it. Again, it is a neat little gimmick, and if it was $100, I would say it would be worth it. At the typical price of $250-300, I wouldn't do it again.
