Q: Will this sub work in a free air installation?

I use these as free Air in a Miata. In free air use you have to drop wattage to about 75 to 100w. You want to separate the front sound waves from the back as much as possible with your baffle.

Q: Frequency response ? I realize this is a small subwoofer but I am wondering if it will function ok as a woofer in a 2 way system? Thanks in advance.

Yes! These actually have a good range well into the mid-bass area. I've used many of the 6" 8" and 10" versions in custom 2-way configurations and they sound awesome! I typically use two decent tweeters (NEVER piezo), two 2-way crossovers, and one of these in the middle using the dual voice coil to handle both the left and right lows. (Note that if used in this type of 3-speaker configuration, the DVC must be located between the tweeters to preserve the stereo soundstage.) I usually make my pieces (it's a hobby) as stand-alone Bluetooth units with 100-200 watt amps, and they get very loud and maintain great bass punch (enclosure must be rigid). Best of all, I've used about 30 of these over the last few years, and none of them have blown or gone bad.

This a dual coil subwoofer, therefore you have a positive and negative connection for each coil. There are 4 connections, 2 positive and 2 negative most commonly used with stereo.
