Opposite reaction in child than what was intended!
So instead of decreasing the bad comments in a child I read the book to, I see him using some the actual distasteful comments from the book in his own language when he is frustrated. So he did not learn the intended lesson. I think maybe it should have been written in the "positive," and show what happens when you use friendly comments rather than some of the bad thoughts floating around in your head.

Great book!
I recently purchased a bunch of these social skills books to help my newly diagnosed 9 yo son who has ADHD and Aspergers. This one is one of his favorites! This book is written lightheartedly, with several funny things said that every kid probably thinks. The child in the book is constantly saying fairly offensive things to other people (nothing nasty) that a child might think to say in normal, everyday situations. At one point, the child tells his mother "NO!" A few times, which I wasn't super impressed with....but then, when it is explained why he was saying "NO!" it became a little more understandable to me why he felt like that answer was acceptable. Though I didn't like it, I eventually thought it was good they included it in there so you can have a discussion about why saying "NO!" to a parent in a store like that would not be a good thing to say. I think kids appreciate books that have "real life" situations that they can identify with.Anyway, I felt the book moved fairly quickly, was engaging, and had a great message. I loved the whole thing about having a "social filter" and not saying everything you think. My son has asked me to read this book several times, so we are able to start using this occasionally in "real life". I find that this book has been an entertaining yet helpful way to work on social skills at home. Great purchase.

Digital copy not worth the money!
I think the story itself is good, but three pages didn't come through correctly and I can't read them at all. I can't even guess at what they say because the words and letters are all jumbled up. I'm very disappointed that I paid almost $10.00 for this digital copy and I can't even guess at what the three pages say. I had accidentally clicked on the digital copy instead of buying the regular copy and then couldn't reverse it. I clicked everywhere to try to figure it out because I didn't want a digital copy in the first place. I wish there was a way to get my money back!

Well written! Great for those kids with “no filter”
I read this to my severe ADHD son. This book covers exactly what is going on in his life now. As he’s only 6, I had to explain a little bit more to him. Otherwise this book is GREAT for those kids with no filter!! It goes over the inside voice, the thought filter and the outside voice!! What is rude that will hurt feelings versus still saying things but in a way that was filtered so you do not hurt feelings!! Great purchase! The art is great. Well written!!

Will not be reading it to my kid
I bought this for my 4 year old after he made a string of insensitive comments to strangers. However, this book would do WAY more harm than good! It shows a boy saying honest but mean things to people, and I just know it would give my son a whole new treasure trove of insults to draw from! And then the solution offered is SO convoluted and long-winded, for a child especially, but even for me!Not sure if I should just throw it away...can't imagine this ever coming in handy.

Teaches the wrong message
Having a child who has "filter problems" I thought this would be great for her. Absolutely not! She needs to work on thinking kind thoughts where it all begins, not bashing people in her mind. This might be one of the worst Julia Cook books I have ever read. Too bad I missed the return window on this book because I refuse to keep it in my house.

I teach 2nd grade and my students ABSOLUTELY LOVE this book
I teach 2nd grade and my students ABSOLUTELY LOVE this book!!!! It has reminded them how to work on their social filter, and we have re-read a few more times thru out the school year (not my choice ...but the students have requested to hear the read aloud once more). Definitely a great book to have and many of my cohorts have borrowed it from me as well!

Excellent Book
Exceptional book. The students loved it. Students use the teachings to have other students and themselves reflect on if they are using their thinking brain or talking brain. This is truly a MUST have!

Fantastic book for teaching kids about social filters
My daughter has autism and this book has been an invaluable resource in teaching her to keep certain things inside her head (thinking bubble) and to use her "social filter" before she says anything. In fact, I would recommend this book for all children, not just those on the spectrum.

Love this book
Love this book! It's so hard to explain to kids what is and isn't appropriate to say to people. This book does a great job with that. As with all the "RJ" books, it does it in a humerus and entertaining manner. My kids love these books and it always starts good conversations.

Great book for kids on the spectrum
Great book for kids on the spectrum. Its very clear in what it is trying to teach. I found the some of the others in the series are not a good fit for kids with autism. This one was lovely. Gets the message across without a ton of language and metaphors that these kids will have difficulty understanding.

Love!
My daughter and I loved this book! My daughter took the lesson and ran away with it! She even insisted we read the book backwards and fix the main character's mistakes .
