At first I thought it came with something on the inside.
I notice it had a 2 broken pages and came all wrinkled. I know its only 2 pages but still I don't like my books being handled this way...

Way too short.
I gave it three stars because even though I enjoyed reading the book, I feel like it was way too short. The book ends right after the Kiss on the Lips party, and if you've seen the show, I think its either episode one or two lol. Idk, I expected it to be way longer. Nothing really happened. On a positive note, I liked Daniel in the books way more than in the show. I always really disliked/hated him in the show. In the book he's actually a cool guy.All in all, I don't think it's worth the $9. I read the whole book in one day on my Kindle and was confused when it ended so abruptly. I am definitely not spending another $9 on book two, let alone all 13 books. If they came in a bundle for $9 then yeah, sure. Plus the author is an upper east sider lol I don't think I'll be giving her my hard earned money. If there's a super sale or a giveaway I would grab the books; they were an easy and entertaining read. Oh and the book description says its witty and funny or something, but I do not agree lol. Nothing witty or funny about it, just teen trash.

Good book
This was a gift for our exchange student. She loves this series, and said it helped her learn more English.

Weird Re-read
It’s strange going back to this series after ten years (post tv show). A lot of the references are dated now - especially with the quick advancement of technology. The concept is still pretty fresh and relevant though (which is why the new tv series is being made). It’s much more adult than I expected - so don’t be afraid to read if your in your 30’s like me. I wouldn’t recommend this for anyone younger than 15/16 (due to alcohol & marijuana use / sex / crude humor).

I read these in high school
I actually have the next three books after this. I used to own the first one but me & a friend in high school used to borrow each others books all the time and I never got that back. I love gossip girls. I did however stop reading the books once the show came out but now I want to read the books all over again. Its about rich kids in high school but its very interesting. A girl who is popular without having to try but doesn't want to be, a best friend who is sick of her best friend getting all the attention she deserve, a lonely boy as they call him trying to find his way of being a writing but also in love with a rich girl. I loved the show but I also loved the books because there's always more in the books.

Silly and fun
There’s no redeeming value to Gossip Girl. No moral, no redemption, no character changes. Lots of head hopping, not even line breaks to show where a scene is moving to different places and different characters. So, from a writing perspective, the book is awful. From the perspective of a reader who is in the mood for total junk and fun, this book satisfies the urge. Like eating a bag of chips with a tub of dip. Or a whole pint of high fat ice cream. Only with Gossip Girl, you don’t have to diet afterward.

You know you’ll love it.
If you’re a fan of the show you need to read the books. The social elite make more sense when you can actually know what they’re thinking and feeling that the show can’t reveal. Add the fact that it’s a short but easy read, you’ll fall in love with all the misguided and jaded upper east siders.

Great TV show, not so great book
I love the TV series and didn’t realise it was based on a book so I thought I’d see where it all started. Conclusion - I am surprised they managed to make a show that good from a book that really isn’t great...It’s clearly a teen book (and I am not a teen) but the writing is really cheesy and the “gossip girl” aspect was a bit disjointed. Maybe I would’ve felt differently if I had read the book before seeing the TV series but we’ll never know!

The television series is better than the book
This poorly written book is not as good as the television series. Lonely Boy, Dan Humphrey, is poorly developed and states that he's never had a fight before. However, in the tv series we see him punch Chuck in the eye and threaten him with a second black eye. He is much stronger in the tv series, but in the book he is undeveloped.I understand the principle of opposites attract and that although Serena and Dan are outsiders in their own way, they don't inhabit the same world. Serena is an outsider because she has been kicked out of boarding school and rumours fly around speculating as to the various reasons why that is. However, in both the book and the tv series I don't believe in their relationship. He hasn't fought to win her in the same that his sister, Jenny, is fighting to be accepted into this middle class society. I would have liked to have seen more of Dan being excluded from high society in his school such as people ignoring his presence.Vanessa Adams needed more development as an aspiring filmmaker. I wanted to share her dream of making films, but what I got from her was jealousy over Dan falling in love with Serena.

Very disappointing!
If you enjoyed the Gossip Girl series, then you will be terribly disappointed with the books. The actual novels bear little resemblance to the series. In fact the screenplay writer/s are by far the more superior authors.

Not A Patch On The TV Show!
I am a huge fan of the Gossip Girl TV show, and usually books are far better than the movie/TV adaptations. That is not the case in this instance. I purchased book 1 and was really looking forward to it. However, I as really disappointed. The writing style was pretty poor and really immature - even for a YA novel. The gossip girl blasts were kind of lame. I think it would have been much better to present the book entirely in blog post format. However, this was not the main problem for me. I just feel like the characterization is terrible. I cannot connect with any of the characters. They are not likeable at all and they are sort of flat! The TV series presented the characters far better, especially the boys. I probably won't be checking out the rest of the series.
