Best watch I have ever owned. (And that includes a Tag, a Rolex, and a Citizen!)
I agonized over which model G-Shock to get. I was replacing a Citizen Promaster Dive watch that I love, but that chews up batteries. Long story short, I decided that is going on ebay, and I am getting a G-Shock. I had one G-Shock solar back in 2010-12 that I had a lot of problems with (holding charge) but I think I did something to cause that, and given the reviews, I knew this would be a watch I could trust. The issue was, there are about 50 models of this thing between standard and limited edition models, and it is hard to know which is which and why what seems to be the same exact thing is $200 more from another seller. I can tell you: These watches have become collectable, and some of the limited edition and Japan only models fetch a lot of money here in the USA. If you are not going to collect it or are not locked into one of the special colors, you can get the one you want much cheaper sticking with the regular USA only release. I'm mostly an avid cyclist and camper, so I wanted features that would be beneficial to me, and I tend to shoot and hunt a lot, so naturally I wound up settling on the Rangeman Master of G series. The only question became, black with positive display or green with negative. I read scores of reviews, watched every video. I was concerned with the reviews that slammed the readibility of the watch, but then I read a few where the reviewer said he could not be happier that he went with the negative display. So that sold me. The price I paid, to me, was very fair. This watch is worth all of the $200 you will pay for it in my estimation. Pros: - Very, very comfortable to wear. Unlike my last watch that always rattled around on my wrist, this one stays put and I forget I have it on. This to me is one of my favorite things about the watch, I forget I am wearing it so I am never thinking "my watch is bugging me, I need to take it off for a bit." - Cool looking. Yeah, I know, but that is one of the things people look for when they are watch shopping. Does it make them happy to look at? - Functionality: Excellent so far. I have not gotten deep into the calibrating of the altimeter or anything like that, but the buttons are easy to push, the automatic time reception is so strong that most nights it picks it up while I am asleep with it on my wrist, and I am nowhere near a window. - Negative Display: Yes, at times it can be hard to read, and I might need to tilt my arm a little more than with a normal watch to get the right angle, but in the daytime, I find it very readable, and at night, I have gotten used to the arm movement you need to use to turn on the light automatically, so no problem there, either. - Band: Love the dual fasteners, the metal band retainer looks good and works great, no sliding around for me and no annoying scratching as I type that makes me want to take off my watch like my previous one. I took that one off all the time at work, the GS? Never. - Color: The green is just about right. whoever said it looks like a WWII tank nailed it. But in no way do I feel like it screams "I am a mall ninja" or "I am a seal team 6 wanna-be!" I don't feel like a poser wearing military gear. Cons: - I wish I could make the light stay on longer, it would make it easier when cycling functions or trying to read the seconds display at night In summary, I am VERY glad I got the one with the negative display, and this is from a guy who needs (but does not own) glasses. I think the negative display is really neat. I think there is a Japan only one that is black with the negative display if the green does not do it for you.

Atomic Timing Greatest Attribute
I’ve worn this GW9400 Rangeman for 4 Solid Months, felt it was appropriate to offer an honest review. My background wearing wrist watches in the modern era would have to start in the year 2013 when I purchased an Omega Man on the Moon. I can’t remember the exact model but it did not have the self winding feature. IOW you had to wind it daily. I purchased it new and at the time it was the closest new model as to what the astronauts wore at the time of the first moon landing. I wore it close to a year and decided what I really wanted to wear was a dive watch but not just any dive watch, I bought a new six digit Rolex Submariner, from a trusted seller saving $1100 off the $7500 MSRP price in 2014. If you’ve owned and wore one then you know what a beautiful time piece it is The Submariner purchase led the way to buying and wearing Seiko diver watches and to date I now own approximately a dozen Seiko diver watches. During this accumulation period I sold the Rolex as I found it was spending too much time in a drawer. I also found that when I wore the Sub, it attracted unwanted attention and I preferred how any and all of my Seiko divers flew under the proverbial radar, even the Mac Daddy of them all, the Spring Drive Tuna So after 5 years of wearing Seiko divers Imy attention strayed and I started looking at G-Shocks. I settled on this Rangeman mainly due to the Atomic timing feature but I liked the appearance of this particular model with the dark dial over the other easier to read alternative. I was also attracted to the olive drab case and band color vs. the other models black case and band On the subject of dial view ability, the detractors that have worn this model then sold it only to buy and wear black case and band with the easier to see dial, in a way, I’d have to agree with them that the dark dial is harder to read at times but with the push of the dial light illumination feature, the dial is now more easily read. It does take a certain level of commitment to wear this watch but IMO, the trade offs owning the dark dial is very much worthwhile. Anyways, I’m all in with this watch and although I’ve only been wearing it for 4 months, I have to say I rather enjoy everything about it, and trust me, this is coming from someone whose majority of diver watches are automatics and not quartz. I have purchased a few quartz dive watches, one of which is a solar powered Citizen and to be quite honest, I’m not particularly fond of quartz watches, until I purchased this G-Shock. Now, the quartz vs. antomatic dicotomy doesn’t matter to me. In fact, my favorite feature of this watch is it’s ability to sync with the Atomic clock in Colorado On that note, I find more often than not, most nights this watch will automatically sync with the Atomic clock yet there are times it won’t. That said to sync manually is easy to do and I need to state the fact tgatbI spend a lot of time awake after midnight and well into the morning. It’s just the schedule I keep so I’m up during the time the Atomic sync takes place and it’s enjoyable to watch this action take place. The fastest I’ve seen this watch sync is two minutes. Other times it’s a lengthier process This watch has a timing feature. I’ve used it but I have other means to carry out timing when needed so it’s not a feature of this watch that is used often, and I only mention it as it is there if you want it Admittedly, all of the other features this watch offers, I don’t use, like it’s ability to record temperature. If I want to know the ambient temperature and am not near an actual thermometer then I look to my phone’s weather app, which is quite accurate Another feature this watch has thatbI don’t use it the altimeter. I spend most of my time in Florida where I live (north central). We are mostly at or near sea level. I have no need nit desire to know how many feet above sea level I am, yet this watch has that ability to inform you if you want Wearability. This is an easy watch to wear IMO. The band is quite comfortable. At this time I find no need to swap the stock band for something different yet if you want to there options to change to a NATO or ZULU fabric band As you are likely to know, this watch is waterproof and has a depth rating of several hundred feet. Nice to know if I wanted to snorkel or free dive, this watch is more than capable G-Shock watches are known for their ruggedness. I’ve banged mine into a wall once or twice with no ill consequence but I am not one to abuse my watch nor subject it to rough wear. I live and work on a farm so for day to daily tasks, it’s quite up to those challenges though built to far exceed them To wrap this review up and in closing I want to say, I’m impressed with what this watch can and will do. What it does for me is to easily tell time at a glance and that is what I wear a watch for, it’s ability to let me know what time it is yet as mentioned, will do more and look good doing it

Another great G-Shock..
This is the only watch I want to wear, it's so useful. First off, I was super concerned about receiving an illegitimate watch from Amazon. I normally try to buy my watches from authorized dealers as often as I can, but with g-shocks, buying them below MSRP is a chance I'm willing to take. However, the watch I received was totally legit, everything was straight, it came in the tin, with the US manual, and the warranty card, everything was there as expected. The multiband 6 feature is super useful, I never have to change the time manually again which I love. The barometer is extremely accurate once you update your closest city (timezone) and set the latitude and longitude of your current city, it predicted a pretty gnarly thunderstorm we had last night and I knew about it hours prior to it being displayed on the TV and radio. The compass isn't that useful to me, but I'm sure it'll come in handy at some point, and the altimeter will be great for hiking and stuff, as should the compass. There's a couple other features which are really useful to me, obviously the solar power feature, mine came on Medium power, but I have it on the power save function and I'm trying to keep it outside as often as I can, so it charges to full, or at the very least, stays on Medium until it gets sunny out during the summer. A lot of people say the negative display is hard to read, but I have no trouble reading it, if I do, I can turn on the auto light (LT) feature by holding down the light button for a few seconds, so whenever I want to know the time when it's dark out, I just tilt my wrist and it displays the backlit time. In every other scenario I have 0 issues reading the display, so I'm not sure what the other reviews are talking about, don't let the negative display deter you from buying the green variant.. One other thing, I really like that the reset button for the stop watch function is above the start/stop button on the right side of the watch. EVERY other g shock I own has the reset button on the top left side of the module and it's ALWAYS recessed, making it hard to reset when it's on your wrist, I have to take it off to reset the stop watch because I have fat fingers.. With the rangeman, I don't have to do that, it's so easy to reset. For my money, it's the best watch I've ever owned.

I really like this watch
I really like this watch. It has a nice weight to it but not too heavy. Feels solid. The negative display looks really high tech and high Quality. I really love the look of it! And unlike some people I have no problem reading it even in low light situations. However, I DO have a hard time with the smaller display items and the round "Eye" display when it's showing things like compass headings or barometer up or down readings. But this is just my poor eyesight. ( The "Eye" is a secondary display, so you still get the same information in a different way from the main display). The altimeter will be off daily. This is because it goes by air pressure, And it's not the watches fault, any altimeter based on air pressure will do the same. The good news is that you can manually adjust it at any time to reset to your real altitude. The thermometer will be off too, again not the watches fault. It's on your wrist, it will get warm from your body heat. Duh. For an accurate temperature reading, remove it from your wrist, place in the shade for about 20 minutes. Solar power seems to work great. When I first got the watch the battery level was at Medium (because the watch was stored for months without any light). After the second day (just wearing it normally) it started fluctuating between medium and high. The next day it stayed at high and it's always there now. Atomic clock: I love this feature! The watch will pick up the National Institute of standards atomic clock radio signal. This is broadcast from Fort Collins Colorado. I live in Orlando FL, which is very far away from there. It will try to get the signal every night. So far (two weeks in) it only missed it twice. Not a big deal, the watch is accurate enough that it doesn't need a reset every night. But it still gets it most nights. And it will tell you the last time it synced up! Cool! Just put the watch near a window at night for best reception of the signal. You can get a G-Shock with a lot of the same features that this one has for about half the price. But I have no regrets. For me the extra features are worth it. I mean, G- Shocks last forever, so why not spend a little more and go for the best? This is a COOL Watch!

It's legit and you'll love it!
Great item! Great price! Reputable seller, fulfilled by Amazon, what more could one want. Within three days of purchase, was at my doorstep. Item itself requires no review that's not already been documented a hundred times over; there's plenty of content available establishing the Rangeman's street cred... comments of it's quirks, it's pros, and it's cons... all of which you already know, because you searched for this item at Amazon. Just buy it already, you know you aren't going find a new one in the box for cheaper elsewhere.

The watch is rugged, good looking, reasonably priced and a good value for the money. Recommended.
Nice watch. Originally, I was going to select the black case/strap version, but decided to go with the green one, instead, to save a few bucks. I needed the watch right away as my existing timepiece went belly up and I was having trouble locating a replacement battery, locally. I didn't want to hassle with that, so I chose next day shipping and boom! The watch arrived right on time. I t was packed with overkill, which is a good thing. My only gripe, and it's minor, really is that with a lot of these modern watches it seems like you need a BS degree in electrical engineering & electronics to figure out the operating instructions. But, I've got the basic time/date functions up and running and will sit down soon and work out the rest. The watch is rugged in spades. I've already accidentally dropped it once on my tiled bathroom floor. Results: not a scratch. Didn't miss a beat. Water's no problem, either. I don't wear my watch in the shower, but it's been through a dip in the local public pool as a test. Passed with flying colors. I'm not a diver, so I'll leave information about that to someone who is. All in all, I really like my new watch. A bit more contrast with the numbers and such on the face would be nice, but the back light is there if you need it. The watch charges reasonably fast with just a short few minutes exposure to the sun. Or, you can leave it under your desk lamp etc. and it will charge up quite nicely. I recommend this G-Shock for anybody who spends a lot of time outdoors. Hey, the sun is there and it's free. Use it to run your Rangeman and forget about battery replacement for a long, long time.

Worried About The Negative Display?
I've known I would purchase this watch for about a year now but could not make up my mind which color I wanted and I especially dragged my feet on deciding between the positive or the negative display because of the comments regarding that feature here on Amazon. I ended up going with the green watch with the negative display despite a fair amount of reviews stating that it was tough to see. After receiving the watch I can say that I'm very happy I went the negative display route. It looks great and is very easy to see in most light conditions. When lighting does make it difficult to read you can tap the light button (the big black button with the waffle-like grid below the 6 o'clock position) and it makes everything really easy to read as it lights it up for about a second. The light created by pushing that button is extremely soft and makes all of the data easy to read with a quick glance. The light is soft enough that you could use it in a movie theatre to check the time without bothering anyone. All of the reviews on here were very helpful but I thought that I would weigh in on the negative display in case there are anymore people on the fence like me. If the negative display appeals to you then go for it. The display is easy to read most of the time and when it is not easy to read because of a glare then the light button will take care of that. I hope this helps. Great watch; attractive, tactical, stylish, comfortable and rugged. If you are using this in the field then go ahead and get your first scratch on one of the polished band buckles and get it out of the way. This is a watch that is meant to be used. Once you have a scratch, get over it and then enjoy. Also worth noting that as I have looked at these watches over the last twelve months or so I can tell you that the price fluctuates significantly. I have seen it as high as a little over three hundred and as low as under two hundred. Keep an eye out and create some value for yourself.

Nice rangeman.
I love this wacht, after check so.e reviews I was skeptical about the negative display, its not so hard to see and in the worse case the ligh button is just right there. I love it.
