Pleased with versitility and performance
Installed 3 EOC-2610's to extend wireless network to a house surrounded by live oaks on a Georgia seacoast island. Needed three (two access points and one client bridge) to zig zag around buildings and foliage.Pros:The latest firmware (V 1.2.4) seems stable and allows the device to be configured as an access point, client bridge, wds bridge, or client router, making it versatile.Unit is relatively weatherproof when mounted vertically. I suspect it wouldn't survive a hurricane driven rain but would probably live through a typical thunderstorm.Power Over Ethernet let us run a single ethernet cable to one device, which was mounted on a pole. Note that you do need to plug in a power supply for the injector but that can be in a protected location.Built in antenna provided lots of signal between access point and client bridge and access point and rooms in a 3 story house.Cons:Documentation is out of date and doesn't match most recent firmware. Many settings are not explained. EnGenius knowledge base isn't much help either. Some of the information is simply wrong, such as a document entitled Universal Wireless Repeater that actually describes configuring a wireless repeater. (The EOC 2610 does not support universal wireless repeating so another EOC-2610 is required as the source access point.) Search the Wifithoughts forum to find better information than provided by EnGenius.POE injector is 24 volts rather than the more typical 48 volts. This means that you cannot use a POE switch unless you can find one that injects 24 volts. As a result, you'll need to plug in a power supply for each device (which clutters up the installation).

Awesome Access Point!
Love this access point. I have been trying to provide Wifi to a condo complex, and tried various solutions which none of them worked. I add this EnGenius and had awesome straight line coverage that went through two buildings! (Entire buildings people). My only complaint is, we needed an omni antenna, so we purchased an EnGenius antenna. The antenna, nor this access point sold the cable we need to connect the antenna to the access point, and EnGenius doesn't even sell the cable you need. Very frustrating. I called their tech support, and then referred me to a third-party electronic site to get a compatible cable...Besides the fact they don't sell the equipment to make all their production equipment work, the EOC-2610 itself is awesome and have had it running in cold winter weather with no problems for a month now.(I give this 4 stars for the lack of cable equipment, although I should probably give the 4 start to the antenna and not the access point).

BUENA OPCION WI-FI

Disappointing in multiple aspects.
I purchased a pair of the EnGenius EOC-2610's in order to wirelessly connect two buildings on our farm separated by 500 meters so both buildings could use the the same DSL access to the internet. The first unit installed easily as a workable "access point" to the LAN containing the DSL/router despite very poor documentation of how to do it and no schematics. This worked for two days and then the devices's electronics failed before I even had a chance to set up the 2nd unit of the pair for a stronger signal in the second building. I ended up replacing the first unit with the second as a simple "access point" in the main building so at least I could communicate with the second building's wireless enabled laptop.I sent a detailed concise email to EnGenius explaining my troubles in simple non-accusatory language. They never responded. The device could not be returned to the vendor without the approval of Engenius so I never was able to get my money back before the 30 day grace period expired. In summary my device failure rate was 50% in the first two days of operation, the instructions for a motivated non-network engineer are inadequate, and the support was nonexistent. I myself would not buy from EnGenius again.

reliable and excellent performance at a reasonable price
I bought 2 of these units to set up a point to point between 2 buildings. One is set up as an access point, the other as a client bridge, shooting 500+ feet across a small lake (both units are pole mounted outside for LOS) The AP is connected to a older Linksys WRT54GL V1.1 router which serves DHCP for the small home network. Both are set up using WPA2-PSK/AES encryption and MAC filtering. Even across 500+ of water the link maintains -27dBm and a constant 54Mbps connection with a real world data rate averaging 18-20Mb. These have been up for over a year and gone through 2 winters with absolutely no problem. Both have been reset once, when doing a firmware upgrade. Bottom line - reliable and excellent performance at a very reasonable price.

It works for a trailer park in the woods.
Using 3 of these units with WDS links to one another to provide WiFi access for a trailer park. One is hooked up to router and others are powered by POE connection. I have each with an omni-directional antenna hooked up. Two of the units provide great signal to trailer park. Added third to really flood the place with signal. Works great. Tried getting one from different provider and it was DOA. This time I ordered two and both work great as EnGenius products should. Like their products and use several different models for care homes, trailer parks, motels, apt buildings and always provide the signal needed to provide service to everyone.
