A Review from Hurricane Country
My family had to deal with Katrina, weeks with no power or running water. Sticking just the non-perishable food that was still around. Then Hurricane Gustav. And when we figured we were sort of in the clear, the 2016 floods came. Some called it a "500 year flood." Others called it the "1 in 1000 odd flood." But whatever you call it, again we were stuck with just what we had on hand. As with most natural disasters that batter the Gulf South, you always face the reality of closed stores, or at least no means of actually getting to them. That's why Prep Basics is a game changer. There's a good variety of entrees in here. How many people it can feed, for how many days, honestly I can only say that's based on the consumption level of you or your family members. But an emergency food pail like this is exactly what we need in the store room where we keep our hurricane supplies. Take it from someone who has been through more than a few hurricanes and floods in his life: be prepared. You can't put a price on the peace of mind that comes with knowing you've got an emergency supply of food tucked away. Now, if I had any iffy feelings about this particular emergency kit, it would honestly be the price. I like this emergency food pail. Yet some of the products are sort of similar to Augason Farms food pails. And I'd by lying if I said that those seem to offer a bit more in the way of sustenance, for the same cost. So I'd recommend this particular brand of emergency food, but I'd also say, do your homework on different options as well.

perfect in an emergency
In an emergency this is great to have. I got this to review and it's sealed, TIGHT, very hard to get the lid off. Once you do the pouches inside are sealed as well. They have a crazy long shelf life of 25 years from date of manufacture and they don't taste horrible, while I didn't try them all I did open 2 of them up and made em up. Not the best food you'll eat, but it's very similar to backpacker dehydrated food if you have ever eaten that. Add water where needed, cook if needed and try to enjoy. In an emergency this is a great option. I would recommend it.

Not for camping
I bought this for camping, DONTThe servings are NOT packaged individually, most meals are 5-8 servings per package. Cooking the meals requires a full kitchenThis is NOT good for camping or emergencies. Just good to stock your pantry

Good Ratio of Nutrients for Emergency Food
This is a good collection of different proteins and grains for an emergency food kit, way better than stocking zillions of cans. Cans don't have a 25-year shelf life either. You could honestly use this on a large family camping trip as well, you get 60 servings which comes out to $2.92 a serving. Food at camping stores is way more than that. One thing about the 25-year shelf-life: that's rated on keeping the pail stored CONSISTENTLY between 55 and 70 degrees, otherwise the lifespan shortens. That's pretty difficult, who keeps an internal temperature in that range in your house? But even 10-year lifespan should be realistic to attain.
