What a great shaving bowl. It is quite heavy as one can guess since it is made out of solid granite. The bowl is overall smooth except for a few grooves on the inside to whip up a lather. I thought the outer portions would be rough going by the pictures but it is not (at least mine). I put hot water in before I showered to heat up the bowl. I used Proraso shave cream in a tube. It whipped up a thick lather and kept the lather and brush warm. I paid $23.75 so no discounts for a review. Without a doubt, it was well worth it. I highly recommend this bowl. Reminder again, it is quite heavy. :-)

This product seems to work very well with creams. But not so much with soaps. There are cheaper alternatives also.After only a few weeks of use my bowl is showing a large amount of discoloration do to water seeping through the porous granite(there are levels to granite quality).That’s not a deal breaker, unless it causes the bowl to mold or stink. All in all it’s a great bowl.

Purchased this shaving bowl for my husband for his birthday. It's incredibly heavy! But it is solid, stylish and a nice size to sit on the bathroom counter or to be hand-held, although again, it is heavy! So don't suggest so much for a hand held shower bowl, 'cus if you dropped it, you'd definitely break your toe! The fact that is rough stone is a major plus, as the bowl holds the heat when pre-heated in a sink of warm water, and forms a nice rich lather with a brush with little effort. My husband prefers to use glycerin soap with this, but also works well for softer soaps and cream lathers. A highly recommended quality piece for the price! Could double as a jewelry dish, or even a mortar and pestle bowl if you wanted? I really like this bowl.

I finally have my perfect wet shave "kit" down. This cup was the cherry on top. I have tried many, including the Viking stainless steel, AOS cup, etc and none as good as this. I use the Art Of Shaving unscented shaving cream and a badger silver tip brush and my biggest problem was keeping the whipped up cream warm or not becoming cold.This shaving cup is the answer. For my first two passes the cream stays warm and for my last pass it is a room temperature.Another great aspect to this shaving bowl is it’s porosity. So it will soak up excess water from the shaving cream maintaining perfect texture for those making multiple passes and even allowing you to add some hot water to your already whipped cream to increase the heat.For those obsessive about the perfect shave like me, I highly recommend this shaving cup.

This was a major upgrade from the first bowl I used for shaving. I had been using a small aluminum bowl with smooth bottom. This bowl has a bit of texture to it and ridges inside. The weight is nice too. It was a bit more expensive than I would have liked and I can't see traveling with a bowl this heavy, but I don't plan to travel with any bowl. I can just work the lather in my hand if I'm traveling.

Fill it full of piping hot water while you shower, and when you’re ready to shave, pour the hot water out and add your brush with cream. You will have hot lather! A truly superior work of art, this bowl is solid granite. Feels good in the hand and looks quite manly. You’ll be quite pleased with this purchase!

The interior is textured to help mix your lather rather than the way a smooth bowl works. This makes perfect lather every time.It's got a little heft to it, but the results make the extra weight worth it.I keep my soap Puck in it, and I live in a fairly arid climate, but I haven't experienced the dried out soap that other folks have indicated in theirs

I got the Seabed Red and could not be happier, it really makes a great shave bowl. The weight of the bowl feels 'right' (not too heavy), good and solid and fits nicely in your palm. The surface of the stone is pretty smooth (not polished) however there are some very mild ridges/grooves (like from being turned on a lathe) on the outside and inside of the bowl. These add a slightly textured look which is nice but also help with gripping and working up a nice lather (much better than a polished surface like a Mug).When I got into shaving with a brush and soap/cream I was originally going to get a 'Mug' and started searching for the right one. Then I started to see the wooden shave bowls and knew that I wanted to get a bowl instead, that's when I came across this cool looking natural stone bowl made of Granite.I highly recommend this bowl, it is very functional, cleans up easily, looks good and feels good. If you're looking for something a little different than the regular old shave mug - get this, definitely worth the price.Note to Manufacturer: Please consider making a little stone lid for this bowl (purchase optional?), nice to have a cover when not in use. (keep out dust, hair, etc.)
