Great Read
I am a nurse so I know a bit about the medical “stuff” that happens to a woman’s body during pregnancy so I wanted a book that was very blunt and honest about the other aspects of pregnancy! This book made me both laugh and cry (thanks hormones) I will be purchasing a copy for all of my girlfriends as they become pregnant!

Clever writing but not quite my sense of humor
I appreciate the concept and approach of this author in writing a book about pregnancy and childbirth. I was really interested in reading something that was more engaging than the traditionally purchased "What to expect" type titles. I found some aspects of the book entertaining - the author has included creative and funny ways to prepare yourself for when your children are here - creating challenges to humorously simulate the experiences you'll have - for example - finding time to go to the bathroom while being interrupted by needy children. She includes interviews with many different couples on their unique childbirth experiences, which I found thoughtful but not very helpful to me. Overall I wound up skipping entire sections with some of these interviews or other information that I felt like I already knew or didn't find relevant to my personal experience. It's a well-written book, I just didn't glean as much practical knowledge as I expected I might.

Hilarious title
I purchased this as a gift for a friend who just found out she was expecting her first child, and she got a kick out of the title... and so far it's helping to keep her from looking things up online and scaring herself lol. There's a lot of stuff about pregnancy you don't know until you've gone through it and she was glad to have something to help ease her mind about some of her fears.

Funny but not really helpful
When I first found out I was pregnant, of course I went on a mission to buy a ton of baby books (don't we all lol). This one interested me from the cover since that was my reaction! The fact that it said it would teach me things I wouldn't learn in other books interested me as well. But once I got to reading, the info provided wasn't helpful. It was more so her experience told in a funny manner but it doesn't mean it's going to apply to you. Some people that can relate to the experiences shared may enjoy it but it wasn't my cup of tea. I ended up buying the Mayo Clinic Guide to a Healthy Pregnancy and enjoyed that much better as a first time mom expecting

Funny and helpful
Not a science book at all so if you're looking for hard data and tons of advice, this isn't for you. It was more like a pregnancy memoir with some helpful insights about what it's actually like to be pregnant. For what it is, I think it's great, funny, and useful. I bought it for a friend who's the first in our group to get pregnant and read it with her and we both enjoyed it.

Buy it.
This was the first book I read when we found out we were becoming parents. Honestly, it's the only "what to expect" book I've read because so many other resources are overwhelmingly boring, so I end up skimming over information that will probably end up being important. This book is perfect, especially for first time parents. It introduces everything in an accessible and engaging way. More research can happen, but this at least shows you what you will want/need to research (rather than simply asking Google "What happens now?"The humor is perfect. The incorporation of different families and stories is perfect. This has become our gift for friends when we find out they're expecting.

Juvenile and petty
I returned this book after getting about 50 pages in (much further than it deserved) because it was it was juvenile and petty. It read as if it'd been written by a bunch of 6th-grade boys who just took their "Healthy Choices" unit in science class.Example from her "50 Things to do Before Getting Pregnant" (at which point I thought, "Yay! Maybe I can finally find something helpful in here."):"42. Have sex43. Whenever you want44. Wherever you want45. As loud as you want46. For as long as you want"The ENTIRE BOOK reads like this. When sarcasm and irony are the most prevalent tones throughout the entire book, they lose their effect very quickly. I actually just flipped to a random page where the author acknowledges that "so far we've joked about almost everything involved with getting pregnant, being an embryonic host, and pushing a watermelon out of your whooha." So at least she is aware that her book is a joke, but in all seriousness, how old are you? Who is your audience? Not only is the writing style, tone, and organization a complete turn-off, but there is nothing informative or helpful in this book. "Have someone tie you to a chair while you hold [a] bag of flour." I can't imagine any situation in which this would help me before, during, or after pregnancy. It's not even a humorous image to visualize. Again, I understand that the book is meant to be sarcastic and "funny", but there is a total lack of tact employed that makes it impossible to read.If you're looking for the pregnancy-book-equivalent of a circlejerk, then this book is for you. By no means is it a "guide", but it might make you feel better if you don't have anyone else to talk to about your pregnancy. (And yes, someone who just used the term "circlejerk" is calling this book juvenile...)TL;DR this book does not deliver on what the title promises, and even the author agrees that it is a joke.
