Very emotional story!
Slight/minor spoilers. This book is just...it's just everything. I felt everything the characters felt. I was heartbroken, angry, frustrated, I felt betrayed and astonished. I just.. so many tears were shed. I texted my niece multiple time to tell her what I was feeling. She recommended the book, so I felt it was only fair to share the journey with her as I read it.Eden is such an impactful character. She goes from a 14 year old bright, shinning, happy young girl to a young woman looking for a way to free herself. Her path was tumultuous and heartbreaking. Each part of the story takes her one step further down a dark road. Seh breaks my heart so many times while simultaneously frustrating me with the decisions she makes. She hurt so many people, but no one more than herself. However, she find her redemption, her key to freedom, and she finds the strength to grab it with both hands, even while those hands were trembling with worry and doubt.I'm glad that she was able to reunite with her brother and clear the air with Amanda, but I'm sad that the book ended before it showed whether she was able to make amends with Stephen, Mara and even Cameron. I would have at least like to see her and Mara reunite. I also would have liked to read about Kevin getting what he deserved. Maybe an epilouge that showed many months/years into the future for a quick update on everyone. Perhaps Mara and Cameron stayed together and maybe Eden and Josh could have found their way back to one another. The ending was fine, it was just really abrupt and left a lot of questions unanswered.All-in-all, the book was very good. It hits you in the heart and makes you really care about the characters.

ripped my heart out & threw it in a meat grinder…in the best way
This book absolutely transported me back to high school and reminded me of the myriad of experiences and emotions that age is burdened with. I haven’t cried this much reading a book in a while and that’s exactly why I’m going to recommend people read it.This story is an achingly real look at the impact s*xual *ssault can have on a person’s life and the ripple created by its gravity. Eden’s life changes irreversibly after her attack and without even knowing about the attack, those in her life are changed, too. There is such power in who we are.Ultimately, this story ends with hope and I wish Smith had given us a bit more time with that hope. (Though from what I understand, there is another book, so I guess that’s fair.)

Tragic and emotional
This book was beautifully written and really makes you feel everything she is feeling. I cannot believe how emotional this made me and although it was really hard to read, I would like to read the next one. It just is so true that one event like a rape can change the course of a woman's life in many different ways. I hope Eden moves forward positively in the next book. Highly recommend but be prepared to cry!

WOW very good book
This book is written well and so so good! The raw emotion and detail just make you feel Eden’s pain. I’m a mental health therapist for adolescents, and I’ve worked with so many victims of sexual assault and the book really helps others get a small understanding of victims go through, although all victims experiences are different. I highly recommend this book!

Loved it
My 14 y/o daughter picked out this book so I purchased it on Amazon and I didn’t read what it was about until after it was purchased so I told her I’d read it first to make sure it was appropriate. I fell in love with this book and the characters. You feel the pain of the characters and go through the emotions with them. It took me only a few days to finish and I immediately checked to see if there would be another book and I’m so excited to read The Way I Am Now.

BEST book I’ve read in a while
This book was beautifully written. It really highlights how trauma and how it affects your relationships with family and friends. The book discusses sensitive topics, that need to be discussed, these stories need to be told so other survivors can feel less alone. The book shows how the hurt that you feel can manifest itself into hurting others. I really could not put this book down.

A Must Read ✨🤍
This book is about a girl call Eden. She was raped by her brother's bestfriend Kevin. So basically this revolves around her trauma and experience which is described in four different parts i.e freshmen year, sophomore year, junior year and senior year. (Please read trigger warning before reading this cause it is hard to read)

Everyone needs to read this book
What a perfect depiction of what it’s like to live after sexual trauma and how it’s like to be a survivor. I’m destroyed but I felt soooooo understood and heard.

A good read
I enjoyed this book a lot and I would definitely recommend picking it up and giving it a read. Was a bit triggering but I think that goes without saying for those who have heard about this book or have come across it. I gave it 4 stars as it took a while to grasp me into the storyline after the first few chapters & then it gained my focus & then started to lose me a bit with parts that I felt didn’t really need to have as much air time as they did. In saying that, overall it’s a really good book and is very insightful and eye opening and you feel the pain of the characters in this book. Very well written.
