13 Fishing - Defy Silver - Spinning Fishing Rods

Love the 13 Defy Silver rods for trout and panfish. Expect an extra 10-15 yards casting distance with ultra-light lures. I've had these rods for a couple years and have even caught a 4 lb. bass and 6 lb. catfish with the Ultra-light 7 footer. Decided to order three more recently through Amazon. The first two arrived as expected but the third one, fulfilled by Super Deals in Kentucky arrived with the box completely flattened, the rod shattered into five pieces and there was no cushioning material in the box at all. Thanks warehouse guy in Kentucky.... I had to pay over $12 more to reorder the exact same rod just because you can't do your job! The rods rate five stars. The person who packed it rates one star just because he's a stoner who happened to show up for work on that day!

Rod works great. Love the fact that it’s a two piece was able to hike with it. Excellent sensitivity and had enough backbone to reel in a 3lb rainbow without issue. Best fast action UL in this price range imo

The rod itself is a great rod. Unfortunately Amazon can’t seem to pack and ship fishing rods properly. The first one arrived in a box that was all bent up. The rod inside was broken in half. I returned it for another. The second one was in one piece but several of the eyes were bent up. I decided to keep it since I could get the eyes back in shape for the most part and it’s out of stock most places. I’d recommend the rod as it works well and has nice sensitivity. I’d recommend ordering from someone besides Amazon.

The 13 Fishing Defy Silver is simply an exceptional fishing rod as advertised. However, (as other reviews have stated) the packaging is terrible! It was literally delivered in a box with the rod extending out of the top of it!? It was pure luck that it was not damaged during transfer. There are round cardboard containers intended for shipping fishing rods…. However, they are not being utilized. Great rod, but you will be rolling the dice with packaging!

I usually end up catching fish under 6lbs, so wanted to get a light rod to make catching smaller fish more fun, but one that wasn’t a noodle. I tried out a couple ultra-lights and found them hard to know when a fish got the hook, or when they did it was hard to get a good hook set since they were so noodly. This rod here is perfect for what I’m looking for. It’s light, can cast smaller lures far, but it’s got good sensitivity to feel bites and just enough backbone to get a good hook set without much effort. It’s been fun for catching shad/bass/pan fish.

This is one of my favorite rods I own. I have been nothing but satisfied with this rod. I have accidentally pulled some 3-4lb bass with this rod and it did the job.

I bought this rod for crappie fishing and it’s amazing! I use this rod to fish in my YouTube videos and I have caught tons of fish with it(@therapynsession) on YouTube. I was also able to pull in a big chain pickerel with ease.

I purchased the 6'6" UL 1 piece. Rod was poorly packaged and an eye was slightly bent but that is more the responsibility of the fulfiller than the manufacturer.As an ultralight panfish rod I found this rod underwhelming. The build quality is good for $50, but comparing this rod to the rod which replaced it, the $65 Daiwa Presso, several things stand out.The action of the Defy Silver is very fast, but the ultralight rating does not seem accurate. The rod fishes much more like a light than a true ultralight; it is quite stout and tends to make hook sets less forgiving on small fish. I could see this as a plus if you are primarily fighting larger trout or bass, but I think there are better options if that is the case. I lost larger fish that I would have no problem with on my Celilo and Presso, both of which have softer tips. If you like a stout panfish rod like the Defy or Shimano Sensilite I would definitely recommend using monofilament only to give yourself at least some flex when the fish shakes its head. I would probably only use this rod for heavier panfish jigs like 1/16th oz and above.The 6'6" length I found to be tip heavy with 1000 size ultralight reels, so I would recommend the 5'6" length to anyone considering this rod; casting distance is less important in UL fishing and is more related to line diameter.The full cork handle is nice. The reel seat is a little cheap feeling but works just fine. The blank is plenty sensitive, and the guides are a nicer thinner style compared to other budget UL rods. It is probably the best ultralight rod in the $50 category from a value perspective, but for a little more money you can get rods like the Presso with better feel and features, or for a bit less you can also get an ultralight Celilo which is an amazing budget/truck rod. Thus I give it 3 stars, because while I don't think its a bad rod at all, it's just average as an ultralight and not a terrific performer in that power rating.

Rod felt great, high sensitivity but delicate. Pretty sure it's defective. Breaks on the edge of epoxy holding guides on. I've fixed 4 different breaks all in the same spot. Finally just gave up since it's a common thing with the Defy Silver Light 6,6. I've now bought the gold version and seems way better and actually usable. Don't have to work about a grass blade sneezing and cracking the rod.

Nice little rod. Got a little beat up in shipping but as to be expected. Straightened out one guide and threw a reel on it. Casting 10lb braid with light lures nice and far! Only got 2 small fish in it but so far quite happy for a rod at this price point. Will be buying more 13 Fishing rods.

I like that it is a fast action.

Don't order. I did at a risk and now paying for it. Jump though hoops to get another or my money back. Guess I'm out $124. Buyer beware of ordering fishing rods. Sad customer
